I wouldn't live there again. I'd move to the north side of town, closer to the train.

Went to school at Valpo (Valparaiso Univ) and have family roots in NW Indiana .
I would not move much more east than Chesterton and Valparaiso as it tends to get hillbilish or further south than Crown Point
Places I would rule out, Gary, Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, Griffith, Hobart, and most of Merriville. In Hobart and Portage you can find some rednecks
Munster is pretty upscale and nice and very good schools if you have kids, Dyer, southern parts of Highland, Scherreville, St. John and a bit further out Crown Point are all very nice suburbs.
I would check out Munster, Dyer and Scherrerville first, since they are closer to your work in Hammond, and then go further out. Valparaiso as noted before has lots of appeal and distinguishes itself from the rest of the "region" as the rest of the state calls NW Indiana

Just my .02c worth and not trying to sound stereotypical or anti-this or that

Unhappy Rent with option to buy in Valporaiso,Portage,Chesterton,...

Hello,

Can someone please recommend any rent to own opportunities in the following areas: Valporaiso, Portage, Chesterton, Merrillville, Cedar Lake, Schereville, Lake of Four Seasons, Winfield, and Crown Point?

We are looking for a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, attached 2 car garage.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. We just haven't had any luck in the papers.
