Default Where to get Lake Perch

We have a friend from out of town who is dying for NW Indiana's FRIED (not sauteed) Lake Perch. That's the smaller yellow perch right? Anyway, who serves fried lake perch? Does Freddy's steak house still have all you can eat? I know Tiebel's has lake perch but I think its sauteed isn't it?

Too bad he wasn't here when perch fest was going on.

Thank you.

Yes, it's smaller than ocean perch. I actually prefer it sauteed, but would love to have it any way right now. One can't buy it in the southern part of the state. The best place for lake perch, Phil Smidt's, is now closed.

You're right. I did buy it once from Marsh. It was a limited time thing. I don't go into O'Malia's very often, but I've never seen it there. I'll have to ask my Kroger guy. I do think the local butcher can get it, but I don't ever plan that far ahead. I'd love to have someone make it for me though. I'm not the best fish cook.

Strack & Van Til's carries Lake Perch. It's pretty pricey.

I usually pay upwards of $15 a pound ... fortunately, you can get alot in a pound! They're small!

There's also an alternative to lake perch that's decent. It's called Basa ... I think that's what it's called. It's a vietnamese version of lake perch.

Hey artemis--good suggestion. I usually go to Strack's when I'm in Lake County stocking up on some things I can't buy here. I often bring a little cooler. For some reason I never thought about looking for fish there. I will next time though. With the upcoming holidays I'm sure to be up there at least once. domergurl--want me to bring some back for you?
