Good news! It appears that the Centennial Village development is now leasing! Metro Commercial Real Estate (MetroCRE) has put up a huge sign at the 45th/Calumet intersection that includes the site plan and contact information. The project is also available online.

Exclamation Interesting

Developers chase next hot shopping spot in NWI

There have been a couple articles about the retail development in the area since Nordstrom Rack announced there entry into the NWI market with a location at Shops on Main to be built by 2017. However, this article is interesting. It points out Crown Point, Schererville, and Valparaiso as the next hot spots for retail and restaurant development, which I can certainly say is true. However, it also includes Saint John but totally leaves out Munster?

The proposed town center in Saint John proposed by Boyer is only at conceptual stages but drew heavy criticism from some residents off of Joliet St whose homes would be torn down. The drawings actually look pretty nice but I do understand the concerns (especially if the town would not pay a fair value for the property taken from the owners). However, this project is still only in the very early planning stages.

Town center, roundabout concepts cause concern

Man says St. John retail center will leave him homeless

The Centennial Village project in Munster (and the long awaited 45th St extension and Calumet Ave underpasses) is currently underway including grading land for the construction of the Springhill Suites. A lot of vegetation has been cleared and so Centennial Park can be seen from the north back by Lake Business Center and Pepsi Plant much more easily and looks very clean and nice. This post isn't meant to be whiny or anything; but to miss a major development like this seems odd to me (unless for some reason, a separate article on this project alone was going to be done). Regardless, I definitely would add this to another potential hotspot for the area especially since it would most likely bring some upscale retailers.
