I live in Black Oak from 1950 to 1961. I would definitely not recomment this area for a multitude of reasons. Poor housing options, and general economics of the area. It is located in an area called Calumet Township. Extend your choices to Hessville area, Griffith, Highland and Hobart or further south to Ross township. Search Library records for the statistics and demographics. Good luck in your search

My mother worked there in 1958-1962. She liked the owners and it was near home. Also paid union scale

I suppose I am partial to Gary, Indiana. This is my home. I don't take to anyone speaking against this town, labeling the crime. You are going on what you heard. Get out there and see for yourself. If you and your husband are not selling drugs, using drugs, involved with friends who use or sell, what is your worry? Reading your information, you or your husband do not have marked professional education. Why would you even get pregnant and you can't stay at home with your own baby? You are neurotic, your baby is going to be neurotic. You and your husband should have thought this out, and stop blaming a community and hearsay of your own problems and future parental failures. Education first, marriage, then SEX last, even the bible will guide you through this. Please save more money before you are concerned with Gary, Indiana's crime. All blacks are not bad. I went to High School with Jackie Jackson of the Jackson 5, Fred Williamson who played in Black Caesar, Denise Williamson, Earnest Thomas on What's Happening show are all from this crime ridden town so you call it. Save some money to visit first, see for yourselves. I hope you do not like Gary, IN. We do not need negativity of your kind anyway. There are cultural differences, if you know what I mean. Stay in your neck of the woods. I am a licensed nurse and I have worked in Gary, IN and nothing happened. There are plenty of professionals that were educated and live in Gary. Try college first, you and your husband, then you won't have those worries. You and your husband are poor decision makers and would not make good parent.

Your husband wasn't qualified for the job in Black Oak (Gary, IND) in the beginning and you and your hubby both knew this
