Any suggestions on good places to shop for groceries on oahu? Is it worth it to go to the farmers market?

Thank you!

What area of Oahu are you in? That would make a lot of difference!

We like going to Farmer's Markets and Filipino stores for the fresh vegetables. Much better produce and much better prices at those locations. Chinatown has good vegetables and produce, too. As well as good shops for tea and Chinese tableware.

Food is too expensive, so I dumpster dive. You wouldn't believe the stuff people throw away. I can have a five star meal from the dumpster outside of Roy's Restaurant. Um, Um, good!!!!!!!!

Really? I would have thought it would be mixed in with loads of ick. We get a lot of stuff from the transfer station but not usually food. Folks put the good stuff they don't want anymore on the side so other folks can take it away instead of sending it to the landfill. We did used to get a lot of the throw away food from the grocery store since it was going to a neighboring pig farmer and he sent the ice chests around the neighborhood before giving the leftovers to the pigs. That hadn't ever made it officially to a dumpster yet, though.

I took a look at the ads in the links posted by HankDfrmSD in comment No2. I shop for our food and the prices listed in the ads are equal to or cheaper in some cases than what I am paying on the mainland westcoast. Saba (mackeral) fillet at $4.99 is one heck of deal at Time Market! We eat about 70% asian
style cusine. Moving to Hawai'i will decrease our monthly food bill from its current level. This is a nice surprise.
