Aloha!

Can anyone give me an idea as to what you're paying for electric, cable, internet on Oahu? We are moving from the mainland and looking to get into a 2 bedroom condo rental in Mililani. Just trying to get somewhat of an idea. Any help would be appreciated!! We lived on the island once before (years ago) but our utilities were included.

Our elect avg's $180 per month, cable is $65 and internet $30. Our water is included in the HOA's.
But I would think you wouldn't use as much a/c up in Miliani as we do in Kapolei.

Thanks Joliefille! May I ask how big is your place? Just so I can compare "apples to apples"...

My previous apt and current condo both had cable included (paid as part of the condo fees that owners pay, so included in your rent). I pay an addition $35/month for internet. Oh, and that's basic cable, so if you want to add channels, that costs.

Electric is about $150/mo on our 2br condo (about 1200 sq feet, I think... maybe more?). It was less in our old place (800 sq ft 2br, no a/c but corner unit so lots of cross breezes).

We only use a/c on the hottest days (maybe once a week in summer on average), but all appliances are electric, and we have ceiling fans in every room running pretty much all the time.

Our condo is 2b/2b and around 1200 sq. ft. We pretty much run the a/c daily and keep the temp at 78, which is the warmest our fur-baby can take.
In the evenings, we turn it off for a couple hrs, if it's cool enough. But, we always close the windows and turn the a/c bak on for sleep. Not due to crime, due to leaf blowers in the morning!

Also have all electric appliances, including washer/dryer. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the replies! Our potential landlord said it runs approx. $150/month, but I wanted to make sure he wasn't giving us a story and we get in there and it turns out to be double!

Again, thanks!

I live in Kaneohe, HI. Gone about 9 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week. I rent a room with a ceiling fan, stand up fan and old mini fridge that constantly needs defrosting. I wash two loads of clothes once a week.. My roommate is home every day watching the teli, uses a dishwasher for only herself every other day ( I eat out or microwave) and she does laundry a few times a week. Our electric bill currently is $150 a month and she tells me it's because I use both a ceiling fan and stand up fan.. My room is extremely hot with no breeze. Any advise? What do you think I should pay for my part of the electric? PS I have a laptop and phone that I charge sometimes at home...

$75/each unless you made some other arrangement prior to renting the room.

Should be 50/50 across the board for renting.

If you want to see how much electricity you're using pick up one of these at Home Depot:

Kill-A-Watt Electricity Monitor, P4400 at The Home Depot - Tablet

Take a reading of how many watts each device uses over 1 minute then calculate watts/hour. Look at the rate you pay and figure out how much you use. Overkill? Yes. But if you feel you're in the right and it's bugging you then this will give you answers. Not sure it would improve your relationship with your roomate though!
