My husband and i have the opportunity to relocate to Oahu for my job, but so far I have yet to find a reliable source to ship my baby. I know most airlines will ship, however not many accept snub nosed dogs like my Coco. Has anyone ever shipped a pitbull into Honolulu? And yes, I am aware of the 120-day quarintine period.

Fly United and take care of the quarintine there before you leave if possible. It is an easy process for those of us who have taken proper care of our "babies" shots, health checks etc...

United won't fly short-snout breeds after a certain date, I believe it's June 1 or so. Check their web site. I have boxers and could not fly them until October 1st because of the restrictions.

Continental won't allow them...

I have read, here, that United does a nice job shipping pets.

See other pet related posts..

Continental and United are merging, so the pet policies may be in flux.

United does not consider a pit bull a short nose breed, (just checked the web site) and from recent flight of my Pit. delta dont either but they will not transport if they are over 6 months old or weight over 20 pounds. We used United and yes they are very good with your 4 legged babies. They will notify you before take off that your baby is safe on board.

What is it with the pit bulls in Hawaii? We spent so many years there and always wondered why so many people had these dogs? We have been in Boise, Idaho for over a year and have not seen one single pit bull.

shipping out of Hawaii to the mainland is alot eaiser than bringing them in though. But, as I said before if you take care of your pet the way they should be cared for its not a big deal or overly expensive.

Just do a search here on "Hawai'i quarantine" and you will find a plethora of posts on the subject... how to deal with Hawai'i's 120 day rabies quarantine requirement, etc., different shipping choices. Also the "Relocation" sticky thread at the top of the page has a number of references.

It's not just the "snub nose dog" limitation you need to be aware of, which has to do with breathing difficulties in hot weather, it's the "aggressive dog" restriction some carriers have.

You should also be aware, if you are planning to rent, that the majority of rental properties do not accept pets, and of those that do, many do not accept pit bulls.
