Aloha cyberfriends,

Looking for sturdy bookcases that are made out a hard wood that can be painted if the color isn't to my liking. Been to Target, Walmart, OfficeMax, nothing seems to be sturdy enough to hold large books.

Before heading to Honolulu tomorrow to visit ABC Furniture and City Mill, does anyone know of a store that sells hardwood furniture, could even be made out of Indonesian Mahagony.

Surely there are other book lovers on this forum in Oahu who needed something more than a piece of furniture that will fall over with a huff and a puff.

Mahalo, Ruby

Sturdy, beautiful, but not inexpensive:

Bookcases | Martin & MacArthur | Gracious Hawaiian Living (http://www.martinandmacarthur.com/store/product/furniture-lamps/bookcases - broken link)

Bali Aga, can be custom ordered. However I personally always buy my stuff from the mainland, worth the shipping charges because I like clean lines and not island style furniture. You can also try INspiration design center (my opinion is way too overpriced for quality, but nice looking nevertheless) and DSW at the Ala Moana mall.

Aloha SB, yep, they only had short ones in stock. I need to take advantage of as much vertical space that is blank. lol

My books that I sent via Media Parcel Post are starting to arrive, four boxes to far. Didn't think it would be so hard to find the bookcases.

I'll keep on looking...

; ) Hank, a man with taste. Love the bookcases! But my debit card would be in shock. Ahhh, the days before the Big Depression, oh Big Recession.

Thanks for the link though, gave me ideas for finding look-a-likes at a lower costs. Decorating on a dime blog coming up.

Mahalo, Ruby

Mahalo Eksotia, the furniture we just sold on the mainland was what you like. We had down-sized two years prior, the condo was new, so we went clean lines, smaller scale.

Our current home is run over by dolphins and palm trees. So not my taste, therefore most are hiding in any unused back space of cabinets and under the bed.

Will check out INspirations and DSW.

Again Mahalo, Ruby

Might try Craiglist too - you never know what you might find on there and could be just what you are seeking.

My problem is that I need two, it seems that the ones I like, the seller only has one.

Stopped at City Mill for some hardware stuff, they have a furniture section but all cheap laminate. Ugh.
