Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a real estate lawyer and/or home inspector on Oahu? Looking at houses and hoping to line up some help when we find the right place. Thanks!

Moderator cut: Please be aware that all realty recommendations should be forwarded via DM here. Thanks.

I think cliphy means "realtor"-somebody who can understand the lingo when buying a home.

Everyone buying property should use a real estate lawyer, because a home sale is a complicated contract and you should have someone who has no financial interest in whether or not the sale goes through (i.e. not the buyer's agent) and who works only for you (i.e. not a lawyer hired by the sellers) look everything over with an eye towards your interests. They will do things like review every line of the sale in addition to checking through public records to make sure there is not any outstanding lien on the property or any other concerns.

Not everyone uses a lawyer when they buy a house. For some people that's fine. But some people (several people I know) end up in a world of trouble when a lawyer could have saved them from it. And, when you're already talking about buying property (in Hawaii!), the additional cost of a lawyer is pretty miniscule in the scheme of things.

My files are currently a mess because of some renovations, or I'd look up the name of my lawyer to pass along. Sorry not to be more help... but most realtors can recommend a good real estate lawyer. (We got our through our buyer's agent, who completely understood our desire to have a lawyer go over everything for us.)
