Miami is beautiful, with gorgeous beaches and swamps. Great nightlife, too, and preetty good weather. Hawaii's weather and beaches are better, but you don't have nightlife that compares to Miami. The mountainous jungle in Hawaii can take the place of Florida's beautiful wetlands. Both are nice for different reasons. I lived in Hawaii for the first 5 years of my life and have returned twice since then for vacation. I have only been to Florida twice, but I plan on going to college in Miami.
I live north of Miami now.
I hate it. When compared to Hawaii.
BUT, That's just me.
I would rather poor and broke in Hawaii
Than to be rich in Miami.... Crazy yea?

I've always heard that Miami would be enjoyable if you were rich....but most who end up there, aren't, so can't quite get into Miami the way they'd want.
Whereas, materialism and Hawaii isn't something that seems to be a part of the typical Hawaii mindset by any stretch.
Though Hawaii is also very expensive...I'd rather be rich in Miami than poor in Honolulu. If I was rich in Miami, I could be in a nice area, and take plenty of vacations to somewhere even nicer (Honolulu). If I was poor in Honolulu, I would live in a nice area, but I would live a miserable life.
Some of us are totally happy living in Hawaii, and would not choose to live instead in Florida even if it meant more pocket money. There is no comparison between the two if you look at the influence of the actual PEOPLE living there. Part of what makes Hawaii, "Hawaii", is the mix of people and cultures. And that is true of Florida, also, and everyone else for that matter. But you'll not find the similar mix of people and cultures that we have here in Hawaii ANYWHERE ELSE in the world. It is unique. It cannot be duplicated. It is something beyond what money can buy.
I love Fort Lauderdale and Miami, but something about Hawaii is just better. More home-y, more livable, more enjoyable.
