Default Car Insurance Prices

Progressive quoted me $239 a month for full coverage with the minimum coverage limits and a $500 deductible for a 2012 Mini Cooper S being garaged in Honolulu.

Currently I am in Minneapolis with full coverage on a 2009 Chevy Silverado Z71 with $250,000/$250,000 policy limits and no deductable, as well as storage insurance on my 1984 Mercedes 300TD. I pay $110 a month here for the best policy Progressive offers.

Is car insurance in Honolulu really that much more expensive? I know that traffic is worse there and that the Mini Cooper has a worse insurance rating, but I would be going from $250,000/$250,000 policy limits to $40,000/$40,000 policy limits, so the rate jump from $110 a moth to $239 a month seemed a bit much.

I also have a clean driving record, no points and great credit.

Is there a better option than Progressive? Seems like they might be ripping me off.

You need to shop around - my 425 horsepower 2010 Lexus costs less than $100/month with Allstate with $100 deductable - I live right downtown HNL. My policy from Portland to Honolulu was almost dollar to dollar the same.

Edited to add - I just tried an online quote for Progressive and it was more than double what I pay now with Allstate.

I'm paying 500 a year for the least allowable coverage on my 380hp, somewhat dinged, 2000 F150.. Give Geico a try, although I can't stand the gecko in the adds, ( whoever heard of a gecko with an aussie accent????? I mean really?!!! slight local pidgen i could understand, but aussie?) However, if you think you're being ripped off, you've definitely chosen the right state to live in..

Aloha,,

At least the ocean is free.........sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... don't want to give the tax folks any ideas...

I don't remember what my coverage was, but I paid around $75 per month for insurance for my Hyundai Accent. I have USAA though which you can only get if you have ties to the military
