Default I think this question is mostly for women.. :)

Finally after owning a home for 7 years, the star have aligned and we are on our way at the end of May.
It has come to my attention that I will NOT be able to walk into a beauty supply store and purchase my normal hair color to mix myself. Not the kind in the box that has the color/gloves/developer in it. I am talking about buying a couple of shades and mixing it at home with developer.
I found online that there is a Sally's Beauty supply in Aiea...I called and asked and they said you have to have a license!!!! WHAT??? I have been doing my own since I was 16!! OK, now panic has set in.
Surely there has to be other women on the island who color their own hair??
Is this an employment issue? I just can't understand this.
Sure I can buy a suitcase full of color and bring it. But let's face it that is not all that practical. Is there a place online you buy yours? I can't seem to find that either.
Does Longs sell the "boxed" type if it comes down to it?
Sorry guys, I know this is not your "thing" but it is something I want to prepare for.
thanks for all your help.

It's hard to get what I need on the island where I live now. (Not sure yet about my future island, lol.) I brought a six month supply with me when I moved. I recently visited the Mainland for a few days and bought another six month supply and brought it home in checked baggage.

Alternatives are having a mainland friend/relative ship six months worth to you in a flat rate priority box, or going through Amazon.com.

Deby.. thank you for confirming exactly what my plan is. As I understand it, it's about keeping hair salons in business.
I looked on Amazon but couldn't find anything.. IF the island your moving to is different than Oahu AND you can purchase it there, please post. It will cheaper to hop over there every six months.
thanks!

I'm moving to B.I. but if it would be cheaper for you to fly there to buy your hair color...what brand are you using, it must be uber-expensive!!! And really rare if you couldn't find it on Amazon. Good luck! I'll bet you can find it on Oahu, though.

Both men and women who want to color their hair with professional quality products buy the coloring/bleach/peroxide on the mainland and bring home a supply in their checked luggage. Or get someone to buy it for you, and mail it to you.

You can buy consumer type of hair coloring at drug stores, etc.

Keep in mind that bleach, or products containing bleach, is considered a hazardous substance and cannot be mailed.

I buy all my hair color at Sally's in Aiea. You don't need a license.

It can however be sent UPS / FEDEX as they have their own planes and do not have to comply with passenger aircraft regulations. Sorry.... I do shipping at work and couldn't help but chime in.......
