Hi
We are hoping to move to oahu at the end of next year nov2008 to jan 2009 as my husband is a student and can get a 3 month working visa in the usa. We will go through an agency where we can choose to set up our own job and accomidation or pay extra to do it ourselves.
I had wanted to do it ourselves, but have heard that people wont reply unless you are there...
How long can it take to get a cheap studio to rent at that time of year, close to waikikki? I wanted to live there so that we will be close to where my husband works(im guessing he will get a job soemwhere touristy) and also so i will be close to the buslines.

Im a teacher and was hoping to pick up some babysitting or nanny work does any one know if there is a high need for that? do people normally jsut pay cash for that sort of thing?

How much money do you think we will need to survive?
Do you think it would be best to go through agency and pay extra and risk not gettin the choice.

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated about a short move to hawaii

Thanks so much

Hi fluroyellow,

If your plans are as you originally posted, to come during the holidays, you might be better off going through an agency that can place you before you arrive.

I'm not sure of the kind of program you might be referring to, but it sounds like you will be here on a pretty short stay and would want to use your time for things other than apartment and job hunting.

Good luck!
