Who said that? Source.

Why wouldn't the government spend money to build up infrastructure - isn't that what the government does with tax dollars? If the government never spent money on infrastructure, that seems pretty sad to me.

Isn't that what they are supposed to do? They are called the Hawaii Community Development Authority. Most of your posts complain about infrastructure in Kakaako - yet you haven't been here in 40 years. So, don't upgrade it?

Why are you opposed to all the low income housing that is coming with these new towers?

What low income housing that is going with the new towers? The only low income housing so far has been Rycrift and Pangodia properties and three developments for seniors only 490 senior rental units were made available from all three. The Halekauwila Place hasn't been built yet but despite what the gov or officals said about setting aside space for low income housing. The offical discription say it all, Halekauwila Place will include hotel rooms, market-price condos, offices and street-level shops. Market priced condos. read between the lines.

If you lived in Hawaii - you know the phrase "market priced" means dedicated to low income earners for all the new developments. All the new Kakaako towers from this initiative have housing dedicated to low income earners. Market means low income market, sigh.

Just saying.

I'll even give you an example since you need it. Who would buy, above market price? Get with the lingo.

I used 'Da Bus' quite a bit when I've spend time in Oahu/Honolulu. Yeah, it's on all of the literature as well. I think it's also written that way on 'Da Bus' itself, isn't it? Seems like it was.

Until recently, most urban centers in the US were considered the slums. They had a high concentration of black and hispanic people and white people didn't want to have anything to do with them. They wanted to get as far away from them as possible. That's when the suburbs were created. Today, lower class citizens are being pushed out of the core through urban revitalization and gentrification. White, wealthy people now realize they don't want to spend hours every day commuting; they want to be back in the city again. Basically, society is making it cost-prohibitive for the "have nots" to live in the core.
The opposite reason. The suburbs weren't created for people to get away from blacks.

The suburbs were created because the automobile wanted to sell it's products. The U.S. gov't created the Highway System, tons of money went to roads and infrastructure to encourage people to go live in the suburbs. It was a direct correlation with the automobile. Around the same time, they start ripping out trolley lines across many U.S. metros because they wanted to make more space for cars, etc.

After the gov't and auto industries created this existance, they drew mostly white people out of the cities with the higher incomes. And as cities became less and less white, more white people decided they'd better get out of the cities as well, particularly with more racial riots and such happening in the 60s.

In short, racist was an important aspect to 'nail the coffin' in, but it was really the LAST nail to be pounded in. It started with the automobile industries, the u.s. highway system, and then that spurred all the rest - drive-ins, drive-thrus, hamburger stands, and everything else. At the beginning and middle parts of the exodus.

Just as an aside, do you have any stats on that?

I can see that being quite likely, just never saw any information on that before.

Is this unique to Hawaii? I mean this definition of 'Market Priced'.

I ask because, the textbook definition of 'market price', is the price the market it willing to pay for something. Meaning, if people will pay X amount for something, than they will sell that item at X.

Never said that but people do have a right to sleep and have a home they can pay for. Further the value of human life isn't based on how many zeros they poses? Does someone being a millionaire means they are more honest? Cheat on there wives less? or cheat on taxes less? Thats the point. The only thing being wealthy says moral wise is one is ambitious and industrial. It doesn't make them a good person. Thats the problem with you and whtvipers thinking.

Further build housing that reflects the needs of the population. Not who you want to atract.
