1) you will get in
2) You need a Hawaiian address to apply from. Not very hard
3) There are plenty of jobs. They may not be great jobs that you can live off of. Waitress, ABC employee, sweeper at the zoo, etc. Optimally, you would get a job that would look good on your application.

Two routes:
Number 1:
1) Get a job and rent a place in Hawaii (Putting these two together because they can be done in any order)
2) Get a utility in your name (cable, power etc.)
3) Get a drivers license, library card, register to vote.
4) Apply from the address
5) Get accepted

Number 2:
1) Find a friend in Hawaii (this may be what you are doing here)
2) Pay for their cable or electricity
3) Apply from their address
4) Get accepted

Things not to do
1) Use a mail forwarding service

Do you go to a church / synagogue / temple. I found contacts through my temple to be VERY helpful when I first got there.

Thanks! Yes, I do go to a church and have a community in the Oahu area. I think they will be a big help with connections, I imagine. Do you recommend any other kinds of utility that I can get in my name? Why if it important? Would you say that's important because simply because it has my name to it?

You need an address and utility to get a drivers license.

There are other ways but it's more complicated.

You won't get a job that pays enough to live in Manoa. Or anywhere...

Why do you want to go to UH? Because you're hapa?
