Kaneohe Bakery has announced it will hold its last day of business on Sunday, March 28, before permanently closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The establishment — located at 45-1026 Kamehameha Hwy. — cited the “difficulty of the current situation and financial climate,” as the reason for its closure.

In a sign posted on the storefront of the business on Monday, March 1, owner Darlene Mizota states that it has been a pleasure to serve the Kaneohe community for nearly 70 years.

Was that much of their business from tourists? Folks still gotta eat and bread and baked goods aren't exactly in the 'luxury' column. You'd expect them to be selling at least to the local population. Do they not buy locally baked bread or do they buy some sort of bread like substance shipped in from the mainland?

Doubtful. Costs for small businesses have gone up. They probably had contracts with some restaurants that were closed or at reduced capacity - people cut discretionary spending when unemployed - it doesn't take much for a small business on small margins to collapse.

Wow, when it rains it pours. Sorry to see Kaneohe bakery closing down. Closing down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and financial difficulty's.

Bought by Chick-fil-a and will become the 2nd Chick-fil-a on Oahu - land was worth $3M which was way more than I thought.

If Kaneohe Bakery owned the land and they could sell it for that much, it makes it even harder to stay in business.

It's actually a decent price at $160/SF. Commercial zoned property (land only) in town goes for $250-$500/SF and this was pre covid. But Kaneohe is definitely cheaper than town.

Sad to see a local establishment shut down, but I'm not sad to see more future Chick-fil-a options.
