Hello all, I am looking for info on living in Waimanalo_Beach. I have done the search and dont seem to see a whole lot other than it is more local. To cut straight to the point we are both cauc and very accepting and open minded and dont wanna set ourselves up for disaster. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you in advance!

Are you saying that you want to live ON the beach in Waimanalo. If that's the case, state kind of frowns upon it.

Aloha, best of luck, you may want to stay put

No we have found a cottage there and wanted some feedback in regards to would we be accepted in that area, ie: Im out having a BBQ maybe spam more likely burgers and invite the neighbors over. In the past (well before reading this thread i would have never thought twice......"Help thy nieghbor" but from all I read there seems to be a very REAL disconnect with being a white kid pretty from pretty much all over, trying to find his little peice of paradise oh an its a small peace.....I would just hate to think I move from miles and miles away to give back and help, me being a Transplant Coordinator and my better half finishing up her education degree only to take for a lack of a better word crap about what, our skin color is. I hope from what I have read on here it has just been overinflated.

True story,
My company did the finish work on the Na Pua O Ko'olau housing project in Waimanalo some 10 years ago. All affordable housing, all for Hawaiian families, who had been waiting for years, on a list with the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, for a truly affordable home. Now, the families moving into thees new homes weren't exactly wealthy, as in money, but, when they would take occupancy of their new house, many of them, would have a luau. Kalua pork, lomi salmon, fresh ahi and tako poki, poi, chicken long rice, lau lau, beer, you name it, and all the people who had worked on their homes were invited. It was great!!! Shortly prior to the Waimanalo project, I was working on a house for a millionaire on Seventeen Mile drive in Monterey, California. I think he may have bought me a soda, once, ended up ripping me off for about five grand...........go figure......Point being, have a luau, kalua pig and the works, invite ALL your neighbors, it's going to cost you some bucks, but will be a very wise investment....

Aloha

BTW, Nalo, Waimanalo, is still one of my favorite Oahu spots

Why Waimanalo Beach If you don't mind me asking? There are quite a few homeless people who live in tents at Waimanalo beach park? This might be a little rough if you are just coming from the mainland don't you think? Perhaps you should check out the Kailua area. Perhaps you did not find a lot of information on Waimanalo was because it is not a highly recommended area for people who are coming straight from the mainland. If you pick the right area to live in your experience on Oahu can be most pleasant. If you pick the wrong area you can run into some problems. Here are just a few areas that many people from the mainland enjoy: Hawaii Kai, Kahala, Manoa. There are others but those are probably the most popular. In my opinion I don't think it is such a good idea, and I hate to be the one to say "I told you so"!!! Even locals Haoles from the other side of the Island can have problems going to Waimanalo or Nanakuli.

I live in Kailua, so I'm no "expert" on Waimanalo, but I've walked around in that area of Waimanalo, and on that beach, and I think you would be all right, if you are neighborly, as Jungjohan suggests.

The Waimanalo Beach Park area that Manoagirl talks about, with the homeless, is further down the beach (near the 72 on this map):

99.99% of the time it's the other way around. Now you know why he's a millionaire!

had a look at the map. Good grief! That's one hell of a nice property you got - right on the ocean! When you say you got a good deal, would that be $10,000/mo.?
