Hello all! My husband may be taking a job in Honolulu-where would be a good place to look for a home to rent. We don't have children to consider but we do have 3 dogs. Ideally, we would like a single family home or cottage (we don't need alot of space)-just a safe place with reasonable rent. We are starting at square one as neither of us has ever even been there before!! Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

where is your husband's job going to be. I would stick within a 10 to 15 mile radius of that.

I would suggest going thru a site such as VRBO.COM and renting a fully furnished, turn-key home for the first few weeks or so. That way, you have everything that you need and can focus on where you may really want to live, just in case the area you chose for the vacation rental isn't adequate for your commute or other needs.

VRBO has a $5000 guarantee that could come in handy, unlike trying to rent a place via craigslist.com which abounds with rental scams.

Use the "search" feature at the top of the page and research "pets," "Honolulu," and "neighborhoods." There is a TON of info already posted here, but most importantly -- oddly -- is accommodating your three dogs, which will necessitate not only our stringent Dept of Ag quarantine rules, (see link: http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/info, but also will limit where you can live once you get here.

Best of luck. Do your due diligence to avoid animal quarantine (and general family upset). There are lots more reasonable home rentals and purchases available courtesy of the economy now. E komo mai!
