Jen - There are small private schools that charge close to the range your specified. I know of smaller private schools that charge in the $6k-$9k range. Look up Hawaii Association Independent Schools. However, those private schools don't focus on teaching kids with special needs. There are some very high functioning kids with learning differences who attend small private schools but they tend to already have good language and academic skills, and few behavioral issues.
The schools that tend to focus on learning differences charge more - Assets School, Variety School, PAC, etc.
thanks for that info afish.. So it sounds like the smaller private schools mainly accept high functioning kids with autism? My son is still nonverbal at this point..
