Planning on moving to Ohau. What are some things I should try to pay attention to? I really don't want to **** off any locals!

When interacting with locals smile, be friendly and respectful. Sounds simple enough but in our day to day lives we sometime forget the basics.

True, loud boastful talking is almost always a sign of someone from not around here. Also either smiling or at least with a pleasant look on one's face is a good thing. It is amazing how many folks walk around with a frowning face and mostly they don't look like folks from around here.

Wear black socks with your sandals on.

Say "Don'tsha know" or" ay " after sentence or phrase.

Talk about what its like back in the States.

Talk loud about yourself to everyone you run into.

Send boxes of back sand back home to your family and friends for fun.

Shoulder hop a wave (Is a standard in surfing everywhere).

Oh wait you wanted things not to do right? then never mind....

Umm don't do any of those things

Do say hello to your new neighbors, and consider sharing some food. Bake some cookies or whatever is your specialty, then take it over and introduce yourself. Wave at people who are in your neighborhood.

Ask advice of your neighbors and coworkers - where to get something, who is a good resource for any services, how to grow a plant.

Look people in the eye when you talk to them, including servers, attendants, cashiers, and other service workers.

S-p-e-a-k ... m-o-r-e .... s-l-o-w-l-y

Be patient. Lots of things take longer here. People chat with cashiers and each other in line. Lots of people run a bit late. Many services can't be done in a rush, and/or are scheduled out for next week.
