I lived in Gainesville and Orlando for some time and am quite familiar with Ocala, which is predominantly made up of retired people. It's great if you love horses and country living, but nightlife is basically non-existent. You could travel and stay over in nearby cities for entertainment. Since you are only home 2 days a week, if you don't mind a commute, Gainesville is only 30 to 40 minutes away on an uncongested highway. However, Gainesville is a small town also. Due to the U of F it has some nightclubs, many single people, a small airport, Country Club, Art Museums, fine dining and plays. Despite football games this area is laid back, beautiful, very low in crime, and a wildlife sanctuary with thousands of trees. Real Estate and gas taxes are high. The winters are good, lowest temperatures were in the high 20's. Summers are horribly hot and humid but Chicago summers are no Shangri La either. It is located in Alachua County. If neither of these suit you, there is always Orlando which is only about an hour and a half away taking I-75 and FL Turnpike. Good luck on your move.

I would say if your from Chicago you will be bored to death in Ocala. Ocala is designed as a family community, wife, kids, house kinda of thing. I too think you may find a better fit in Gainesville and it's an easy drive to Ocala. If you want peace and quiet, unlike Chicago, you may find Ocala appealing. If you want nigh life and perhaps meet someone new, in my opinion Gainesville would be a better option for you
