We were thinking about visiting The Villages for a long weekend this fall; which airport should we book our flight, Orlando or Tampa?
Any suggestions on hotels/restaurants. Believe there are hotels in The Villages?
This relocation research is turning into a job!
Thank you for your help,

Try the vacation packages the Villages offer. Much better than a hotel.

try http://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/index.php and search for transportation from airports etc.

If I had to pick an airport to fly into, it would be Orlando International because it would be closer. Cost may differ between Tampa and Orlando though.

Orlando is closer. If you won't need a car, Village transportation offers an inexpensive shuttle to and from Orlando International.

Thank you for the suggestions! Will look into the packages.
Didn't know about the shuttle service to the airport and plan on taking advantage of that. Does anyone know if you can rent a golf cart while staying there? Be nice to tool around the neighborhoods.

The Villages Lifetsyle visit includes a golf cart and 2 bikes.
Price is reasonable and gives you an idea of living there.
We visited friends in Jan 2012 and then did the Lifestyle visit in Feb.
Purchased a lot, started building and moved in in June.

MCO will probably be you're best bet unless you live in an area serviced by Discount Flights and Vacation Packages | Travel Is Our Deal™ | Airfare & Hotel Packages from Allegiant which flies into SFB (Orlando-Sanford). And what is so surprising about the fact that the fastest growing small town in the country has a hotel?

The lifestyle packages are great but you're only allowed to do that once. If you plan on return visits, or decide that you'd rather simply vacation in the Villages and live somewhere else, you can rent properties within the Villages. Rentals of the smaller patio villas are typically $100/night and you get full membership privileges during your stay. You'd have to rent a golf cart seperately but I think we paid around $120 for a week's golf cart rental, including tax. Once you're settled -in- the villages, you really don't have any need for a car.

We rent every year; we're saving our "lifestyle package" for the year we actually intend to buy. This also gives us a unique look into the purchasing options, because we rent a different type of unit each time we go.

I've met people who have been on their 3rd and 4th LSV through the Villages.
Best to check directly with the sales office.
There is absolutely no pressure to buy. They don't have to with 250-300 house closings a month!!

My husband flew in to Tampa and out of Orlando. Orlando is much easier than Tampa was.
