I've been going through all the threads and it seems like most of the bad opinions were older posts and the newer ones are mostly positive.

I'm a single thirty something with a five year old child. I work from home on the internet so I'm not worried much about the employment issues.

I basically am curious if your opinions are still positive. I drove through there once when I was 19 during a horrific storm so can't really base any past experience on anything. I like rural but not isolation. I need the basics, walmart, staples, michaels/joann/hobbylobby, some kind of pet store and a larger grocery store.

I was looking into the tamp area first but I am city-phobic. I don't mind visiting but can't live in one.

Do you think we'll be comfortable? I'm not into the camo wearing/redneck scene. I can take hicks, but not rednecks.

What do you think? Is there anything I should know? I'm looking into the Carlton Arms apartments. They seem to be a nice complex.

Don't worry about the stereotypical redneck in camo being everywhere. Carlton Arms is OK.

The stores you asked about are here in Ocala.

However, based upon your query here, yes, Ocala might be a good fit if your "Internet job" can pay the bills. I wish you and your child the best of luck.

I think you'd like it just fine. It has everything you listed and is relatively quiet but not Mayberry. I love it here, and Carlton Arms is pretty nice. I had some friends who lived in there and was impressed. I'm not really an apartment person myself, but it was a nice place. Good luck whatever you decide

Thank you so much. I'm not an apartment person myself but figure it's a good way to have other kids in the neighborhood. The house I'm renting out in OR now has no kids and my poor daughter is just so lonely and bored.
I appreciate your response!!!
