1 recent homicide, I think it was a domestic case though on the older side of marion oaks.
I've lived here for 12 yrs.

And Just a little update for the Marion Oaks lovers, I guarantee you. You will see a little higher number in the amount of police officers here in Marion Oaks and the reason is because King Tone of the Latin Kings is out of prison and word is he's moving to central florida. That means, Latin Kings may become more active again, a big problem Marion Oaks had in the past.

It seems take everyone has something negative to say about Marion Oaks. I personally love it. I stay in the newer section, and I love it. I have children that goes to both Sunrise Elem. and the middle school and they are both great schools. So what if you can only get a satellite service, people in the inner city even have dish or directv, and you can have high speed internet, because I have it and I am not having a problems with it or my telephone services. There are downsides everywhere. Everywhere you go there is some sort of problem. You notice everyone that has something bad to say are still living here and probably not even thinking about moving. Marion Oaks is very big and somewhere in it you will have your piece of mind here like I did!

I have to say I have been on the south side of 484 for about 2 months now and my husband and I purchased a newer home and we love it. We are west of the older homes not too far from the elementary school and everyone seems really nice.

When I asked to see a home on the list that had everythign I wanted the sales lady said it was a great home, "but" on the south side, not the north side.
Whats the difference? She made it seem like it was somewhere in the ghetto. We right now live I guess on the north side. So does anyone know the difference??
Again, it happened today when starting up trash service. When we said we lived in Marion Oaks, she said she needed to know if we were south side or north side. And when I told her i didnt know she said I would know if i lived in the south side, like if it was bad!
Anyone know anything about this!??
Thanks,
Clarissa

well, the south side is where the community center and the winn dixie is at. that part of marion oaks is not a ghetto but a rather a beautiful place to a certain extent. but like they say looks can be deceiving. that side of marion oaks has up to date, the highest crime rate in marion county. it is also in the top ten in highest crime rate in central florida.

The South side of Marion Oaks, near the community center was one of the nicest communities I have ever lived in. My job moved us away over a year ago. We still remain in contact with our friends and neighbors via email and visit them when we go back (which is at least twice a year).

What about around the golf courses... Marion Oaks and Huntington?
How is the neighborhood in these areas?

Soooo confuse
WOW!
Just bought a house in Ocala and the address is SE, East of 75 & 441. I'm now wondering of I made the right choice to move there!
Is it better on the East side of 75 or West side of 75?
I thought in reading about it being colorful meant some of the houses were in different colors. I guess that's not what it means huh? And so what if others have color? That's so negative on how some think of others. Could it be that's why some are unhappy and THINK this town is not as good as it really is? hmmmmm
I have moved a few times in my life and I have moved into really nice neighborhoods and they still have there lows and highs, good and bad parts. I don't think there is a place on this earth that doesn't have perfect because no one is perfect, but from what I have seen in the area we looked into, it looked really nice and quiet. We took rides around the neighborhood at different times and it seem pretty damn nice to me. Could it be some here are just bored or grown out of thier neighborhood or that it's too colorful for their liking?
So is SE of the 441 an ok place to live or what? I think it's around or off of Spring St-Fort King south of these rds. If i'm not mistaken it's not too far from the Historical District.
What are the "Newer" sections as opposed to the "Older" sections?
Where are the "Bad" neighborhoods?
What street is this "Community" on?
Bits and pieces don't give a whole of a neighborhood.
We also have to see it as if you have been living in an area, any area for years you would have to expect changes too. I grew up in an area that was the best and now it isn't as great as when I was growing up. This happens every where. Sad but it happens.
I hope I made the right choice

I hear the rumors about the old section of Marion Oaks (South) and the crime problems although I have not witnessed anything of the sort. I have had occasional theft problems on jobsites but it is mostly the crews that are working on that particular job that walk off with material and tools.
Choose your builder very carefully and check out the boards for complaints. Good luck!!

I have several homes in Marion Oaks some north of 484 and some south of 484 and I can see little difference. I live a few hundred feet south of 484. there has been 5 houses built on my street since 2005 when I purchased the property. I still have unimproved lots on both sides of my residence and I consider that a blessing.
As you drive south on Marion Oaks Blvd. housing gets more sparce the further south you go. Their is allot of wooded land with out many pesky neighbors.
North of 484 gives you more of a big city feeling.

This area isn't in Marion Oaks. There are good and bad areas in the South side the main reason I won't move to Marion Oaks is because I like having an acre or more to myself...lol that being said I live in Summerfield but my Kids go to school in Marion Oaks. On 1 occasion I went to pick my daughter up from the middle school and witnessed a drug deal inside the schoolzone. No Marion Oaks isn't for everyone for various reasons but I have friends and family who live on both sides and are very happy there
