Marion County is a product of Retirement communities ,& a majority of transplants .
Ocala is a "All American City" was one of the fastest growing counties in the USA. {a few years ago}

M C is one of the lowest paying counties in the USA & THE lowest paying in the state .

There are a lot of horse farms {some barns nicer than most houses}
If you want a "job" there are a lot of companies that are here because of the lower pay rate ,if you want to really prosper you need to deal with the retirement communities, the housing market is for $h**. there are a lot of houses brand new{2 to 4 years} never lived in.

I recently heard that there are 330,000 people & over 50,000 out of work I don't know if that includes retirees.{radio}

I have been here since 1978 when the Ocala Square , St Rd 40 & pine street {441} was the main strips.

Marion Oaks had a Jiffy Store & a Bank.

You had to go to Belleview or Ocala to go shopping.

When there was nothing down St Rd 200 west of I~75.

I guess you take the good with the bad .

Me personally I want to move back into a place like this was in the 1980's

Back then people would wave & say "Hi" to you when passing them on the road , street or where ever .

Driving in the near the congested areas can be hell ,beware of Seniors & their big cars.

On a scale of 1 to 10 its a 7 for me.

My family and I live on 189th ave in Dunnellon, we have lived here for5 years, we have a 2 year old and never have had an issue. My wife and her family have lived in the same house on 27th st in Dunnelon for 30 years.

Dunnellon has it's issues, mainly with drug's noting major a lot of pills and mainly with younger/high school kids.

Dunnellon has a low crime rate every once in a while someone will try to rob a gas station but get caught. And we are on the grow we are getting a Lowes and a few other bigger bussiness and that will help out alot. Plus we have the Rainbow river, one of the best river's in the state for swiming,tubing and boating. The gulf is only about 30 minutes away with some decent little gulf coast town. Another plus is Gainsville is only about 45 minutes away. and Orlando only about 1.5 away.

Ocala is a dump. Stay away from Marion, Lake, Sumter counties. There is only one good place left in FL and it's Walton/Panhandle area. We moved to VA after 20 years in FL and looking back - FL seems like a third world country! The schools are the worst - they shut the power off the students on 30 degree day....on purpose!! Crime is up. FL is voted worst drivers in US. State gov't caters only to seniors. Do some searching on Ocala.com and you'll see for yourself!
