I do realize Ocala is far from the coast but there must be some nice areas to live around Ocala that have a decent school system. That's why I mentioned that we would not mind a 20 to 30 minute commute.

Your post is confusing. You can probably find a great high school up by Gainesville. You can find a great high school within 30 minutes of the coast, (east coast, maybe). But if there's a town with a great high school 30 minutes equidistant of the coast and Ocala, I don't know about it. Maybe somebody else does. You can also use the search box at the top of the forum to search for information in old threads.
"hoping for a list of areas to check out." Probably going to be a short list.

The state web site has grades for schools.
I do not know the various schools in the county but West Port is very impressive. I would visit if you can. It is in the SW part of the community. This site will help you

Note Ocala is the city but the area around Ocala is also referred to as Ocala. West Port is probably 8 to 10 miles outside of the city.
