Yes, FL used to be a solid D state...just like the rest of the South. Then it shifted. You know, Southern Strategy of Nixon, Civil Rights of LBJ and all. Even after the South had shifted R in national elections, though, the D's were still pretty powerful with all the Blue Dogs up until the early 90's.

The people here are wonderful, and Christianity and conservatism are the reasons. People in leftist-controlled areas treat each other very badly. Here, most arguments start over who gets to open the door for whom.

Overall, though, socialists and people who are against Christianity are multiplying, and it will not be long before they run America. It will be like Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, only with yoga and forced baking of birthday cakes.

Human beings love "free" stuff that comes out of other people's pockets, and they will never stop voting for it.

Bingo. If they want blue, they go to the west coast or new york

It seems the younger crowd "under 40" are all very liberal and progressive they are huge supporters of homosexuals and there is even an Ocala Pride event which I don't even remember taking place when I first moved up here. I am 32 years old and a very conservative Christian it seems very hard to find other like minded people around my age here. It seems my generation is being brainwashed to hate what is good and love what is bad.
Aren't you the accepting one. If you want to associate with only "Christians" just like yourself then go to church. Last I looked, everyone is allowed to practice whatever religion they choose in the United States. Not everyone is Christian. Just like the rest of the country, there are Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddists and a host of other people who practice other religions living in Marion County. They all have different beliefs, ideas and views. And because these beliefs, ideas and views differ from yours, it doesn't make them wrong and yours right.

And if you are a Christian, then you should be accepting of all people. Maybe you need to go back to Sunday School and re-read the Bible. If being Christian means being small minded and racist, I am very happy I am not a Christian!

Not surprised your handle has "Miami" in it. A lot of people up here left South Florida to get away from people like you. I did, and I thank God every day for helping me escape. Dade County is a sewer of godlessness and voodoo; every day I spend in Marion County makes me hate Dade County more and wish more strongly that I had never lived there. We left, so why are you still bothering us? What more do you want?

Where do you get "racist" from? You didn't even read what she wrote. She didn't mention race. You just read "Christian" and started foaming at the mouth. Living among Christians is wonderful. It's like everyone here is family.

The lady your bigoted rant is targeted at got up and left so she could be among like-minded people, and here you are, telling her to leave again! Forget it! Conservatives and Christians don't have to leave Marion County. We are welcome here. We are accepted. You, I'm not so sure about. You would really hate hearing Christian music in grocery stores and restaurants.

What's the matter with these people, anyway? Who made them the big Mega-Mega?

Grocery stores and restaurants are no place for "Christian music". Despite having the loudest voices church going Christians represent a substantial minority of the population (around 25%) and those who even identify as Christian period while a majority (6 out of 10), are not enough to warrant having to listen to your very narrow viewpoints exclusively...nor put up with that cheesy music.

One of the thrift stores nearby that I shop at occasionally plays a mix of Christian music mingled with Elvis and other music. Elvis did a very good job with his interpretation of some of the old gospel music. Not to mention that one of my favorite songs is O Happy Day by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, and it was a huge hit for them even on the popular music stations back in the day, so yes, it does have mass appeal. I come from a semi-Christian background. I have always found much of the music to be spiritually uplifting, even the old hymns of my childhood. It appeals to man's better nature and offers hope that is not found in the strobing, sweaty dance halls of today that dispense a desperate, frenetic and false merriment accompanied by a heavy monotonous beat.

If you want to live in a Christian ghetto go live in a commune. Ocala isn't that. I am Jewish and if I want to listen to Jewish prayers or music or associate with Jewish people I will got Temple and not impose my religion on anyone else. If you are Christian and enjoy Christian music or prayer or socializing with like minded people go to Church or a Christian concert or listen to it at home. Like it or not, Ocala is in the United States where church and state are separate. And just because one isn't Christian, doesn't mean that they don't love or believe in God! Or that they aren't good people. Christians don't have the corner on the market on that!!!

Who the heck are you addressing? Nobody is arguing with you. Shalom and again, peace be to you. But I warn you, if I feel like breaking into song and belting out a chorus of O Happy Day at the gas station, you are not going to stop me.
