Ocala, Florida (Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando: renter, job market, gated community)

Hi,
Not sure where to post this, but I think that Jacksonville or Orlando is the closest town listed on this site. I am considering moving near Ocala Florida, my brother lives there and I am curious about the job market and quality of living there. I'm a software developer. I understand that Ocala is a fairly isolated area and I am single so I do not want to be isolated, but I want to live in a climate that is warm and sunny most of the year. I recently lived in a rural area in the midwest and I was never so miserable. I am living in Maryland now, near Baltimore and the job market is good and the climate is not too bad most of the year, but there are other reasons, long story, that I may want to relocate again. I would appreciate any advice.

I`m not to familair with Ocala as far as living there but if you looked at areas just north of Orlando in lets say seminole county you can still find a job in the area you excel at and be a reasonable drive from your family in Ocala.

Ocala is Isolated from what I have seen driving there.

what towns are nice in seminole county -- do you know casselbury or ovieda. Would someone from NYC like it there? Can I get a renter in in the meantime. What area should I stay clear of in casselbury or oveida

Ocala isolated? With a population of 316,168, and less than an hour from Orlando? I dont think so.

Being raised in Miami and lived in Ocala for 25 yrs I would not recommend it for you, Winter Haven is a great area, near everything yet has the smaller town feel to it, you should check it out

I live in Los Angeles and have for all but four years of my life .I am a big city guy who has worked for 35 yrs as a news cameraman for Kabc tv news covering everything from sports to murder and movie stars including Manson hillside strangler. Menendez brothers and OJ Simpson I probably forgot some but that is okey. My point is I recently retired , my wife who is from NY says the air here does not agree with her wants to move . I thought Palm Springs . But this state is so lliberal or should I say socialist that eventually the state will control everything. So I am out of here . I have been to all states in the area . The best being Prescott Az. but getting too pricey . So I will be taken them up on their offer of free nights and check it out . It would be nice to lock up all the things I hate behind gated community and just do fun things like golf and etc .and hope all the liberals have not invaded the rules committie . Paranoia not true but many years of working in an industry that is totally liberal and being one in the midst of all those liberals is very upsetting . Any way I am going to be cool and my wife are going to adjust to a country life
