Cindy -
The best thing about schools in Palatka for a child your son's age is he can dual enroll in the high school and the community college. They also are the home for Florida School of the Arts if your son is so inclined. Palatka is a working class town. The largest employers have been factories/power plants. Palataka has recently seen some growth with Home Depot, Lowes, a new Super WalMart and a couple of fast-food restaruants opening up over the past couple of years. There have also recently been some business that have closed as the economy has been tough there has it has been in most places in Florida. There are some small festivals in the town that keep tourists coming in as well as bass fishing in the St. Johns River. Of course, the chamber of commerce will send information to you upon your request and you can read the local newspaper - The Palatka Daily News - on-line. Hope that helps.
