Rolling Hills
There are no immeidate lake around Rolling Hills, But not too far away (10 miles) they have a river that people just rave about. Fishing, Boating, and swimming take place over there. This is very open land, it takes about a month to get your phone service. But if you are looking for land and neighbors that dont bother you. Its great. As far as I know, recently 1- 1 1/2 acre lots are going for in the low 20's There are some really good deals on new already built houses in the area. If interested I can give you the realtors who have some of them listed.

Thanks for the input. Dish internet is too unreliable in storms, and we rely on our cell phones too much to relocate in this area on a maybe. Too bad -- we saw a couple of houses we liked in this area. But I rely too much on technology to be without it -- especially once I retire.

Walmart and some other stores are only a few miles away. Tell me what you want to know and will be happy to tell you.

Well its been a while but we are closing on a house in rolling hills in June. After two short sales and one foreclosure, we are finally there. My husband retires in June so this is working out just fine, although there has been many a head ache along the way. Our home is on 125th terrace. I bought this home from pictures only and with my sister looking for me. It looks like it is out there a ways but we are country people so I think we will be fine. I did see mentioned having to own a truck for the dirt roads Is this necessary?? I really cant wait to get out of this cold ny winter weather. I am a little nervous about this chinese drywall stuff. My sister says its in the news all the time. My inspector says he is just going to training?? Any info at all will be greatly appreciated. Take care Linda and George

Hi Linda and George
No, having a truck is not necessary but it does make traveling these roads easier. 129th terrace rd is the main street in and out and has now been paved, so that makes it easier too. Make sure you sign up to get your utilities ASAP otherwise it can take over a month to get them on, especially if your house has never been lived in. I can give you the names of the companies that service this area, if you would like them. I dont blame you for wanting to get out from the cold winters, we have been hitting the 90's all week and we are starting the rainy season. Rain a couple of times a day now, this usually lasts thru June. Feel free to ask questions again!

Your inspector is going to learn to check the copper AC evaporater coils and copper ground wires behind outlet and switch plates, for blackening, pitting and corrosion.
He will also inspect any chrome fixtures, and mirrors in bathrooms for blackening, pitting and corrosion.
That is something that anyone can do themselves. Homes identified with it have been built anywhere of 2001- 2008.
If you find it, get out of that contract ASAP.

Thank you for your replies I guess water is a concern, although Ive been told that the water in that area seems to be fine I guess we,ve already bought the place so I guess we will find out The home was built by Armstrong and I was told that their drywall supplier does not buy from China so that is not a concern. I guess any info you can supply would be greatly appreciated Thank You Linda and George ps hope to met you soon

In my opinion, Armstrong builds a nice house. My Mother rented one of their homes and she was very happy with it. Most of the workmanship was very nice. With all the rain we have had the side roads are really messy. Did you check to see if you are in flood zone. they have recently rezoned (in Oct 08 I beleive) We were not in a flood zone but now we are. Flood Insurance can be costly, especially if you are near a retension pond. Our garbage is Veolia Srvices 352-3518886, For Tv we have direct TV 1800-5315000.
Check your water, some of the water out here has a very strong sulfur smell, or is very brown. I know I'm jumping around but just trying to think of things we had to do when we first got here. Is your house new?? If it is you probably will have to do something with the water. One if the first things you want to do after you move in is hire a pest service. Without them you will have plenty of spyders, scorpions, and plenty of ants. We have a service and I very seldom see anything. I would love to meet some new local folks, and if I can help with anything please let me know....Yvonne
