Question Home insurance / pool

I was told that having a pool will make your home insurance go higher. I am wondering if it is the same for above ground pools.

A pool adds to the replacement cost of the home and only if it is attached meaning that it is adjacent to the home and with a screen enclosure. The higher the replacement cost the higher the premium. It is actually the screen enclosure that makes the premium higher more than the pool itself. An above ground pool or an in-ground pool that is not attached would not add to the replacement value.

Cool! Thank you. I actually prefer no screen. To me it takes away the enjoyment from nature.

Without a screen some other type of barrier will have to be in place to prevent unauthorized entry.

Good point! Most insurance companies won't write a policy unless there is a barrier (i.e fenced yard or pool gate) around a pool.

Its not just replacement value that is the issue - its liability for when a neighborhood child wanders into your yard and drowns in your pool - thus the need for a fence, etc.

This is very true. I do recall neighborhood kids coming into my yard to play pranks when I first moved here. Thank goodness that I have a fence now.
