What is the safest part of Ocala to live in?
I'm originally from NYC, but I've lived in Tampa and New Orleans for 20 years and do not consider myself a Yankee, and I would never consider moving back North. Ugh. So, please, no Go Home Yankee remarks as I've been reading occasionally in the Ocala forum.
We own a home in New Orleans which didn't get flooded, but the hurricane thing is too much. We loved living in Florida, and we especially loved rural Florida. I've seen the Rockies and been all over the US, but Florida is the most beautiful, hands down. So we want to come back.
Ocala is such a great location, a day trip from the Gulf or the Atlantic. We would like to make it our last, retirement home. However, it has been around 17 years since we've driven through Ocala and I hear there are some crime issues.
What are the "hot spots" in terms of crime? I've heard that west Ocala is pretty bad. I want to get an idea of location before I start calling Real Estate agents. All y'all know how aggressive they can get. I'd like to have a sense of place, of where to look before we drive out and investigate.
I would so deeply appreciate any input on this issue.
