Hello,

Will be starting a PhD at UF next year, and am in the process of looking for a home for my family (2 small children). We have family in SW Ocala (Top of the World?) and DW would like to stay within 30 min of them. However, I'm finding it difficult to find a compromise regarding my commute to UF. Couple questions:

1) What is the approximate commute time from Ocala to Gainesville? Google has it at 45min, however the forum posts have it at 30min

2) We are faced with A) finding a safe neighborhood that B) isn't for retirees. Does this exist either in north Ocala or on the way to Gainesville? It seems almost barren with the exception of McIntosh and Micanopy. The problems with these town are the distance to our relatives (I think 50min).

We are open to anything that is safe and a reasonable commute time (45min I think is the ceiling for me). Thank so much for replies!

Wish I could help with the finding of a home for you, but I can answer the drive time query. Depending on where you are driving from and to, its pretty much a half hour drive. I have a friend that commutes every day, and she says a half hour also.

Thank you for the info on commute time, that helps a lot. Anyone who has info on good subdivisions/neighborhoods north/northwest, we would greatly appreciate it. I've scoured the forum but did not see much pertaining to that region.

I assume that you are talking about renting?

If not go to realtor.com for homes for sale.

It is hard to find a place to rent in Micanopy now cause of the overflow from the university starting its fall session. Although they say since apts have been overbuilt the rental situation may not be as tight.
