To people who wish to move
My advice is rent rent rent. If you are unsure you want to stay there is nothing to keep you there. You can find out first hand where you would like to go....even rent several places in a year in different locations and you will situate yourself in the best place before taking the plunge!

Just a fair warning to anyone wanting to move to ANYPLACE in Florida.....DON'T! I was born and raised in central Fl. Moved to south Fl. and N. Fl. for a while. Spent all 42 of my years here( except for going to college out of state a couple years) Florida is the armpit of the world...and save your trite "well, why don't you move" comments. I'm moving to Iowa and the dismall statistics regarding this pathetic state can only confirm my opinion.....or you can just come find out for yourself, if you can stomach it! I know this sounds HARSH but sometimes the truth is just THAT.... HARSH. P.S. N. Fl. is better than S. Fl. ..but still bad.

Well I can't be that harsh ...I love my home state...BUT I STRONGLY agree....If you move here North/North Central Florida is by far the best this state has to offer with regards to raising a family, more rural atmosphere, slower living, lower prices.....ect...ect....
I will say, Florida is killing my family....prices are going up VERY fast and rate of pay is NOT....it seems to be going down! You MUST have a job before you move here no matter what part of the state you choose to reside! Good luck affording Homeowners insurance too!
Oh and Good Luck on your move bar21! I'd like to move to the PNW but the view won't pay the bills ...wish it would! If we move it will probably be more like TN, TX or SC.....maybe one day!

I was born and raised in Ocala... I have to say I have seen Ocala grow by leaps and bounds. The traffic is getting very heavy but I still like it here. If you move to Fl you dont want to move much further South then Ocala. Yes, the towns further north are much smaller and more rural. My personal advice stay away from Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, Ft Lauderdale!

Thank you all for the information.
PTECH, I am latina and find it offensive that you would categorize latino's as pigs. I know that pigs, violence and ignorance comes in all colors. Good luck in selling your home.

Stay away from the racist comments, if you find offensive comments report it and don't reply.
Thank you.

I used to live in Ocala many years ago. I went to Vanguard High school for two years. I drove back and forth to Gainesville from Sarasota every few weeks when I went to the university of florida. I was never a fan of Ocala. It was a little too white trash for my taste (no offense). The drive up I-75 is beautiful until you get to Ocala and then all you see are tacky billboards and McDonalds. The horse farms are about the only thing Ocala has going for it. The mall is terrible. The big excitement was that they just got an Abercrombie and Fitch (how pathetic). I would recommend anywhere south of Orlando. If you want something in North Florida that is similar to Ocala but more intellectual I would recommend Gainesville. It is the quintessential university town filled with educated people, coffee shops, and people always outside riding bikes or jogging. Gaineville public schools are very well regarded according to Newsweeks rankings as well. But if strip malls and Walmart is your thing then Ocala's your town.
