Smile relocating to ohio

We are looking to move to Ohio. My husband works for Kroger and wants to transfer to the Cincinnati main headquarters. We want a slower and higher quality of life then we have in southen California. My husband wants a commute 30 minutes or less. We have a high schooler and a college aged student that goes to a community college. Can anyone recommend a city that is family oriented but not over- crowded. We will do good on the sell of our house in California so we can afford a home in the $400,000 range.
Thanks,
Julia

Hey, Northern Californian here. We're looking to get out too. California is driving us nuts with the low but expensive quality of life. Good luck with your search.

We're looking into Ohio as well. One thing that really worries me are the postings here by the user Ohian. Very negative and down on Ohio. You'd think that Ohio was sitting on a toxic waste dump and that every neighborhood is a Super Fund site with neighborhood prisons instead of parks. Can anyone debunk this guys claims? Can Ohio be THAT bad?

Ohio is a great state. A lot better compared to California. Many people have moved in recently from New York and Michigan. Some to escape the higher cost of living and some for a better job oppurtunity. Michigan's unemployment is terrible. My wife moved here from Florida and i came from Pittsburgh. We live up in Westlake just west of Cleveland, but are looking to move down to Mason, Ohio just north of Cincinnati. My job is moving me down there. Ohio offers so much. Every place out there has its problems. But what i like about Ohio is that is has great cities if you want a faster pace lifestyle and slower out in the suburbs and countryside. I will answer your questions and everything in some of the other threads that you have made. Good Luck to both of you with your moves to Ohio.

Wink Thanks for the info

Thanks for the information about some of the towns you recommended. We are so excited about Ohio. The housing, the quieter way of life, the cost of living, but most of all the less congested freeways. Life in California is so out of control and seems to be getting worse every year. I know my kids will never afford a home in California and so if we expose them to other communites they may have a chance of having a decent home with their families and a better quality of life.It will be hard to leave our friends and family but we need to plan for our future and California is not the best answer. I feel that more people will be leaving California instead of arriving.
Thanks again Paintballer1708
By the way my son loves to paintball. He just got a new Ion gun.

Digdug....ignore Ohian......I was born & raised in Ohio & still here for a reason! I love it! I don't think I would want to raise kids anywhere else! It's a great place to live, just have to be in the right area, just like any other state!!

I recommend West Chester, Mason area, which is about 25 miles north of Cincinnati. Good luck!

You should try looking in Lebanon. The price range you are looking at can buy you A LOT of house. The schools are excellent, and taxes are much lower than Mason. And we are right off of Interstate 71, very quick access straight down to downtown Cincy. Plus we are very close to dayton too if you choose to go that direction. I work close to the downtown area and it usally takes me about 20 minutes to get to work. Please feel free to ask me anything about Lebanon.

NO, Ohio is not like that. Anyone that tells you anything bad about Ohio either has something wrong with them or is flat-out lying. I love Ohio and would never consider leaving for no reason other than to live somewhere else.

I'm sure both of you guys will love Ohio too!

I live in Ohio in the Akron area. Jobs are depressed here, but so it is in other places as well. Columbus and Cleveland, Cincinatti are good places to live and their suburbs as well. The only negative for me , living in Ohio, is the cold winter weather. If you are in a professional position and can live in a suburb of Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincy, you'll like living here. Lots of culture and lots to do for the kids and the parks here are great.
