My wife and I are relocating to the Marysville area. We are in are early 40's and have two kids in college in Michigan. We are looking for a place to live but have no idea about the area. Bellefontaine seems to be a good city but I am only going by Microsoft Streets & Trips... I would like some Real People Input.
We would prefer a Golf course or two, Resturaunts, and maybe a Home Depot. Woods for hunting, Lake for fishing, close by would be a plus..... Any info would be Great. Thanks.... |

We moved to Marysville about a year ago and love it. It is a smaller town (18,000 people), but it is close to a big town (Columbus). There is quite a bit of new development already started, and more on the way. We have a new Home Depot, Super Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Office Max is under construction. We have several restaurants (Applebee's, Bob Evans and some local places), as well as the standard fast food and pizza places.
The schools are great. Ohio provides funding for schools that don't meet the testing standards or who don't receive enough public funding. Fortunately, we don't qualify in either category. With Honda, Scotts and Goodyear plants, employment is pretty good. And no matter what your income range is, you should be able to find a nice home. We are only 15 minutes from Dublin and Northern Columbus and all of the shopping and dining that they offer. There are several recreational areas nearby (Indian Lake, Alum Creek State Park, Hoover Resevoir, etc...) And 75% of Union County is either classified as rural or agricultural, so there should be plenty of places to hunt. I would strongly encourage you to take a close look at Marysville and the Union County area. Good Luck! |

I am familiar with Bellefontaine, but it is too small to meet your stated needs. It is a very nice small town, but shopping and restaurants are very limited. It is about 45 minutes from the north end of Columbus though. It sounds like Marysville would more meet your needs.

Bellefontaine was officially laid out about 1820, while Marysville was founded in 1816. They were founded by different people and were not sister cities. Marysville has MUCH more to offer than just Honda. It was a small city of approximately 9,000 before Honda even began production in the mid 80's. It has steadily increased in population since its founding. In the last couple years the commercial market has simply exploded in Marysville with several new developments which include several Big Box stores as well as several smaller shopping centers and nearly a dozen new eating establishments. I believe both towns would be wonderful to live in/near. Bellefontaine has remained a smaller town in the 13-14K population range, while Marysville has doubled in size over the past 15 years with roughly 18-20K currently. |
