Piqua???
So what does everyone have to say about Piqua? We are looking for a smaller town, somewhat rural that would be great to raise dogs and rear children. we would like to be within 10-15 minutes to a major grocery store/Walmart. I wouldn't mind seeing cows or horses out my back door. Any information about Piqua would be appreciated as we are exploring our options. Thanks so much guys!
Also if you guys have any info on the following areas, please feel free to share: West Carollton, Middletown, Carlisle, Springboro, and Franklin.

While Piqua is small town, there are probably plenty of other towns within a stones throw of what you want without the more prevalent (petty) crime Piqua has. Look back in some of the forums and search places like Anna, OH.
Troy wouldn't be bad, but I get the feeling that it's becoming to much a northern suburb. I think it's also bigger then Piqua? Not sure bout that one.
The other places you listed I probably wouldn't call small town. They are closer to a suburban atmoshpere though some more then others. Franklin/Carlise might be ok, but check out Germantown first. Springboro is also fine but it's developing at a pace that the township (its most rural area) will probably look like the city in 10-15 years. Try Waynesville or Harveysburg instead. Or cheack out Jamestown, Xenia Twp, or Ceaderville in Greene County (East of Dayton).
IMHO, I'd stay north of town if you want your move to be long-term and not lose the small town character to the growth of the suburbs. That is already happening in Warren County and areas between Dayton and Cincinnati.

Thank so much
Well, I thank you for contributing to this post. We took a little road trip last week to find out where we want to be. We visited Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconson. We have decided on Fort Wayne, Indiana. It has all of the amenities that we are used to here in Charleston, SC, but it also has some beautiful farm/rural land. Thanks again for everything. You guys have truly made this home-hunting experience a little easier!

Piqua IS NOT a dirt town!
I grew up in Piqua, later moved to a midwestern city and then out West. I've been around and seen the country, but appreciate my hometown so much. Piqua is a classic small/average sized midwestern town and a great place to grow up. There is just enough commerce that you don't have to leave to do somewhat major shopping...but it is close enough to Dayton (and Columbus and Cincinnati for that matter) if you need more options. Piqua's downtown is being rejuvenated...and there are lots of great locally owned places...as well as chains by the interstate.
The people in Piqua are good people...and will become like family in time if you stay there long enough!
Raise your kids there!!!

I would recommend Troy over Tipp City or Piqua. I'm not big on either of them. Troy is alright though. The other two are kinda too small townish.' North Dayton is right next to a very sharp climate divide line. That area gets bad storms more frequent. It also gets about ten degrees colder than the rest of Dayton numerous times during the year. Troy has the most jobs and suburb growth. Has a Christian high school also. The overall area of north Dayton grows extremely slow though. I think of it as Dayton horse country. If I were a minority I would probably avoid Tipp City. Piqua might be okay and probably Troy. But Tipp City seems to uptight. Just a thought.
