Lovely stories and platitudes - however, since life is short, One Way Out, has the obligation to herself/himself to live where it "feels" right. Ohio is a state, it's not a state of mind, that is true. Everywhere we go, we will bring our prejudices, preconceived notions, and all the things we've been indoctrinated our whole lives. Still for some (like me), I long for mild weather where I can walk and be outdoors all year long. I'm at the age where I have to stay active or else go downhill. I enjoy being outside and walking, not walking on a boring treadmill or using an elliptical trainer. Should I be persecuted for desiring that? I also agree with the person that said, "you either like Midwest or you don't". Perhaps this is true.

heck im married to the meanest woman in the world but i wont give her the satisfaction of trying to ruin my day. happiness is a state of mind and you control your mind not the state of ohio.
I have tried to make the best of it here. Now that I am out of my original neighboorhood an into a different one maybe it will be somewhat better.

I have to disagree with you in that your sourroundings have much to do with happiness. You can move from neighboorhood to neighboorhood, worse to better, or whatever, but if the area you are in generally lacks things to do that interest you it becomes a problem. Going to a Mud Hens game, Storm game or whatever is always fun, and I try to do it just for something different. I went to a UT Rockets game Saturday in fact.

I do attend church and have many good friends here, and know alot of good people. Being with friends is always a good time, but many of them see the same things I see about this area and some wish they could move, but are tied here by family, business, or otherwise. As far as I am concerned, it is about location. If I had a wife and kids, they would come first of course when it came to this issue. Since now I have the chance to move pretty much anywhere, I am going to take it. I may not in the future, so it's now or never.

No, it's not that bad here, there are much worse places. I just do not like it here. When I do decide where to go, I will extensively research it and make sure that it is what I want it to be.

True. For me, greener grass is definitely back in MD, or elsewhere. Again, it is not that bad here-- just not for me. I am not going to force myself to like something. Either it clicks or it does not. To each their own here. Example, if I do not like to drive a Ford, I am not going to force myself to like it just because I have to, I will go get a Chrysler instead, as long as I am not stuck in the Ford for whatever reason. If I am, I will to what it takes, within reason and common sense, to get out of the Ford and into a Chrysler.

I agree you should try out someplace else. But why do you feel the need to trample on Ohio. It is the home of many on this Board and it is very offending. Not because there are things you don't like but because you are very harsh and repetative on many of the threads. This is not to gloss over the real problems here. But you are beginning to be just plain mean. I am sure we all know now that Ohio is not for you and your reasons why. So, go explore your other options.

Fair enough-- things I post here are my personal opinions, and should be posted on here for all "potential" Ohioans to see. It is only fair. This should not be a "rose-colored glasses only" forum. I am not trying to offend anyone, nor see where I have. I post things from my perspective here. Others have a different perspective, and that is fine. To each their own. None of this is directed towards any of them. These posts should in no way be taken personally. If I have offended, I apologize. I will try to be more positive, but I will put the negative right in with it. Points have been made many times yes, but its between myself and many different posters, not just a few, so if it seems repetative, that is why. I will watch for any unnecessary repetativeness. There are many threads here too with positive subjects that get repetative, such as statistcal threads. The idea here is to get some real insight from real Ohioans, positive and negative, not just statistics and demographics, etc, IMO. Threads here also tend to stray from their subjects into unrelated discussions, which often leads back to the same things again too.

Onewayout, I've tried posting things here as a "real Ohioian", having lived in the state of Ohio for almost 36 years. I see positive things here and negative things here. In my opinion (God forbid according to those that seem to know a lot more about Ohio than those that have lived here almost 4 decades), I think that the once powerful state of Ohio has gone down the tubes in the last two decades due to the mass exodus of jobs due to companies relocating out of Ohio. Schooling is being supported by local tax and income tax levies. Where is the money that we're paying to the state of Ohio? State colleges have doubled their tuition within the last 4-5 years. We have two in college right now; the tuition costs are outrageous in my opinion. Houses have not appreciated here as they have in other parts of the country. Foreclosure rates are up (and this is evidenced and supported the Akron Beacon Journal who did a study on this). This state is in need of rescuitation to become as great as it once was. We need state officials who really care about the state and the people of the state. I have children who are currently in college (as well as younger children). I'm not that sure that my two oldest children will find jobs in this state. These are the issues that people need to look at before they move to Ohio. Maybe retirees, or others who do not have children who will eventually need to find a job here, or those that do not have children, etc. - some land, an affordable house is all they're looking for. If so, Ohio is good. There are affordable houses, people are people as they are in any state (some good, some bad), and mostly traditional "values". Like any other state, if offers good points. Like any other state, there are negatives as well. I think this is fair to say. Take care.

Its nice to see we are finally clearing things up in here. Ohio has its problems. Everyone knows that. I keep saying this all the time, and i think it is a very good point... every state has its problems. I know many people that have moved to Ohio and loved it, others that have moved away. But a lot that i have found that move away come back. Oneway, it does seem that you post more negatives about Ohio than positives. But like some have said this site is not just for all the positives. But it does get old when all some do is bash Ohio. I wish more people had the oppurtunity that i do and could go out and see what other state's conditions are.

And Donna, i realize you have lived here most of your life, but i dont think that i or anyone else on here acts like they know it all. I do know a lot about Ohio. My job informs me on all of this everyday. Just last week we got some great news that Cincinnati is gaining population again. This is an urban planners best news basically. With more people heading to the suburbs in about 98% of most large metros, for a city to gain population is great. We just went from 308,000 in the last census to 331,000 in the latest census. I see that things are starting to calm down here, and thats good. This site is meant to help people out, and i think all of us Ohio forumers do our best to do so.

Default One way come on

I have one Question if Some one got on a MD the way you got on Ohio you would you have liked it. May be some opions about the economy the weather I personly will say one of the reasons I am in South Carlina now is the weather, and I am very happy that I now can go out all year around and run and work in the yard . But think about what you said you made fun of the way we speak the way some poeple dress ( I have been to MD and there are people there that wear the hats sideway and the pants down to their ankles not just Toledo thing.) and You pretty much said we were a bunch of hard drinking sports loving Camaro driving trailer trash, and yes being raised in Ohio by two hard working immgrants that tried to give me the best in life, I do take offense to those statements. Every City I have lived in or been to has showen me good and bad. As I stated before I can't live everywere but it does not give me the right to trash a whole state and expect everyone to just say oh well it's your opion. Opions are some times best kept to yourself. As many of us were told when we were young if you dont have something good to say dont say anything at all.

Again I hope you do find somwere that you fit in and are happy thats the most import thing in anyones life but if not dont trash the people because they are not like you or talk like or dress like you. Remember one thing the world is nothing but one big city.

No need to take this so personally. I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I have had a difficult week, and I was taking it out on Ohio, which was not right. Everywhere has its good and bad, and as you all know, there is more bad here for me personally than good. People tend to fly off the handle sometimes when several things make them angry at once.

As far as MD goes, I would not criticize anyone for liking it or not. If they bash me personally, as in saying, Oneway you are just some idiot from Maryland, than it would be a different story. Again, I apologize for any statements that may have been too harsh or offended anyone.

All in all, I dont know what to think about these forums anymore. Over in the Arizona forum, there has been alot of bashing going on about AZ, arguments, etc, a state which I really like. Same with Utah, and Georgia (on other forums). Then there are other forums that are the complete opposite-- everyone either loves it or hates it, depends on the forum. It seems positive and negative people will group together on this subject. It has been hard for me to get a real idea of how it really is in some of these places I am looking into. I guess that caused me to come back here and spout negativity. I have decided that the only way to really get to know somewhere is to experience it for myself.
