Onewayout... I don't understand something....
If you're so happy in AZ.... why the heck do you keep coming back to the Ohio forum?????
Didn't get enough Ohio bashing the first time around, so now you have time to spend for another go around? Not sure I understand where you feel the need to keep coming around.... Since you hate Ohio so much and all.....
Enlighten me?

Just telling a new poster my experience-- nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of people that relentlessly bash over on the AZ forum too, so Ohio is not alone.

Toledo?!?! Well geez...same as I told Vagabond... no wonder you hated Ohio!
Honestly guys, Toledo and Cleveland are two of the dumpiest, dirtiest, ugliest, most impoverished, ghetto-est places in all of Ohio. Both towns are full of lazy socialists. And these don't even begin to compare with Youngstown...
Seriously, if you wanted to see some GOOD things about Ohio, you need to spend some time SOUTH of the Turnpike (I-80). Cincinnati is a romantic, charming city with tons of character. Columbus is clean and modern, with an economy that's actually growing (very un-Toledolike concept, I know).
Southeast Ohio is gorgeous—peaceful, rustic, and replete with crystalline lakes and streams among the forested, rolling hills of Appalachia.
Judging all of Ohio on the basis of rusted-out, falling-apart northern cities is silly. You wouldn't judge ALL of California on the basis of Compton or South Central, would you? Does ALL of Arizona resemble the west or south sides of Phoenix?

I was born, raised, educated, have lived in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati my whole life and, except for the weather, I love it here. The people are friendly and polite. People usually say hello and speak to me on the street when I walk my dog, and they open doors for me when I'm out and about. There are plenty of things to do for fun: biking the Loveland Bike Trail, Kings Island amusement park , Coney Island's rides and gigantic pool, The Beach Waterpark, community pools, the Hamilton County Park System is amazing, canoeing and kayaking on the local rivers, local sports teams, card clubs, women's clubs, the symphony, live music, festivals, concerts, major league sports, etc. The schools and universities are great. From my home I can walk to two parks and a nature preserve and I feel safe night and day. It's a great place to raise a family and have a nice life! Midwestern values and courtesy are alive and well in my town and I feel very fortunate to have such a nice life here. I hope that when I retire and move to a sunny and warm location, I will be able to find a place as terrific as this to live out the second half of my life. This will be a hard act to follow as far as quality of life goes.

Of course, I tend to be a fan of Cincinnati in general. As big cities go, Cincy is just a great place to be.

Well I somewhat agree. The only reason I dislike Ohio (Toledo) so much is because I can't find a decent paying job. Correction I can find a job that pays "decent" however with my college degree and student loans I want MORE then "decent" paying. In addition I can't find a job in my field here. I planned to move this summer to Vegas. I too had my house on the market. I can't seem to GIVE my house away. No one is buying houses these days. I've decided to rent it out and move anyway. Maybe in a few years I can sell it.

I don't recall winter being six to eight months. I remember some days in November(the Indian summer month) are often times in the sixties and even seventies. It just depends on the year. I'm sorry you don't like it though. The decay has lasted forever in Ohio it seems like.

Ohio
I grew up in Steubenville. That place should be nuked to start over. The rest of the state is pretty disgusting as well. Although I have had some good times in Athens and Cleveland. The rest is pretty backwards, racist and ignorant.

Again, that really depends where you go.
This may surprise many...but in all honestly the most hardcore racist, ignorant people I've ever met (in Ohio, but also generally) were in large urban areas! You might expect the opposite...but my experience says otherwise.
I've never heard the "n"-word used more often by idiotic, bigoted whites than when I was in Cleveland. But hey...at least it's a two-way street, as I found blacks in Cleveland were more likely than elsewhere to hate us (whites) right back!
In smaller towns and rural areas, I've found people are usually a lot more neighborly, friendly, understanding, and Christian towards each other. And they don't get as hung up on skin-color, either! In a small town, people are just...people! As it should be.

I work with some African Americans who just move to the Dublin Ohio area one from Chicago and the other from Atlanta and both have found central Ohio very nice so far. They both have been here for over a year and live in White neighborhoods. I must say that both are men and in there 20's. So do not say that all of Ohio is racist. I'm sure that if you try you can always find racism no matter where you live.
