Default Questions on Toledo

I have a job offer from the Toledo area and would like info on the area - particularly areas to consider moving to for schools, subdivisions, shopping, etc. I read that the area is depressed on the job market front, but how is over all quality of life outside of that? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Maumee, Perrysburg are two popular suburbs people like..If you want to stay in Toledo, south toledo has reasonable prices, lower crime. The city itself is in a good location. 45 min from Detroit, 2 hrs from Cleveland and Columbus, 3 hrs from Chicago. Hows the quality of life in Toledo itself?...Depends on where your coming from.

Default 15 year Perrysburg Resident

I grew up in Perrysburg and went through the Perrysburg school system and they are excellent. Consistently towards the top in the state. Its a great small town, very safe, and a great place to raise a family.

I live downtown and truth be told it's not too bad. My complex is 100% market rate, and my landlord has really taken care of the place. 3 min drive to work and short distance from some shops. But then again it all depends on what you're looking for. You use some street smarts in the city but get more, or you can go to the burbs which is nice but can be more remote...

I live in Sylvania (1/2 mile from the MI line) and love it. Sylvania schools are excellent and there are a lot of nice neighborhoods here.

Toledo is a good place for a family with good employment-- the good is, the housing is CHEAP, compared to most areas, as long as you have a job--crime is moderate (in most of toledo, outlying areas have nill crime), schools are better than most--

The bad-- coming from a 26 year old former Toledo resident-- there is nothing much to do for a single person-- land is FLAT-- have to drive for hours to get anywhere interesting-- job situation is bad, economy is bad, most people are fixated on OSU and drinking/shopping/eating-- but if thats what you like, more power-- I love the outdoors, the worse the weather and the higher the mountains the better for me--thats one reason I moved to AZ and am still loving it--anyways, north end and east side is high crime, run-down, along with central city area, stay away from those places-- if you must move to the Toledo area, move to Maumee, Perrysburg, Monclova, Sylvania, Northwood, or Oregon. If you like drinking/shopping/eating, this is the town for you. Lots of family activities, if you are a single person, this is NOT the place for you in so many ways, you will be VERY bored and disappointed if this is you.

I lived here for a few years, in the Maumee area, and I would not recommend Toledo-metro to anyone. I dont regret moving out one bit.

The best way I would describe Toledo is creepy. I lived in Bowling Green for four years and would drive up there for shopping. While my wife and I would enjoy the opportunity to move back to Ohio, we wouldn't move to Toledo. I have heard good things about Perrysburg and Watertown, though.

NicePolishBoy,
Did you mean Waterville?

The Toledo Public Schools have been put on a Watch List.

I have lived in Perrysburg for 16 years. My 3 kids have all gone through Perrysburg schools from kindergarten through high school. The schools are great. The community is great. People are so friendly. The only thing I hate is the long winters and the gray days that come from living near Lake Erie. I also don't like how flat it is here. I wish I could pick up Perrysburg and move it to NC. A lot of great neighborhoods in Perrysburg too.

I don't think Toledo is creepy.
