Nice pictures. The downtown buildings look good, but what struck me was the lack of pedestrians. They are pretty much non-existant.

It's a shame the houses are in such bad shape. I saw a few of the smaller ones that looked to still be nice.

Youngstown reminds me of a mini-Toledo. And I love Toledo.

Great shots everyone! I really like how Youngstown sits in a valley. I have only been to Youngstown a few times, but have been impressed with the art museum, symphony buildings, and a growing campus next to downtown. I first went to Youngstown when I moved to NE Ohio, and was recently there earlier this summer. The transformation within just those few years is great! Millcreek Park is truly awesome, couldn't believe how far it stretched from the suburbs right next to downtown. I believe it is one of the largest metro parks in the country...

On that note, I have noticed a very Western PA accent in the Youngstown area. Youngstown is the mid point between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, but seems more like Youngstown has the accent of Pittsburgh. Cleveland clearly has that "lakes accent", but there is a clear distinction between Cleveland and Youngstown.

Oh wow! I've been taking a break from CD lately but this is going to suck me right back in! I like the "through my eyes" themed title, JR. You have some excellent shots here as well!!

I'll definitely add some to this thread if you don't mind, although most of what I have is industry related. I'll try to capture more of the neighborhoods, which is something that I have been meaning to do for a while now.

Thanks for starting this thread!!

It's funny, people in some parts of Youngstown and points south have the Pittsburgh accent, i say certain words like western pa, but not to the extent of Pittsburghese. You won't hear too much of the Cleveland accent just north of the city, it's more of a neutral accent, then when you get to Canton/Akron/Geagua county you start to hear the Great Lakes thing. I laugh at both accents and it's a noticeable difference, even to me.

I'm not sure how we're posting (or supposed to be posting) photos these days. But here are a couple of shots I've taken recently in Youngstown that I've posted to my Flickr account. If I need to post these in a different manner, please let me know!

1) The Liberty/Paramount Theater, which is one of my favorite historic structures in downtown Youngstown. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's located on the corner of Hazel and West Federal Street. The theater opened in 1918 and was in use until 1976 or so. It's a shame that it was left to deteriorate to it's current status.

Also, here's a link to the website for The Paramount Project. Hopefully this will happen, I think it would really be an asset to the city! Paramount Project - Future Plans

2) This is just a random shot I took in the alley behind the Youngstown Business Incubator.

3) A shot of the freshly restored signage on the Federal Building, which is currently being renovated into a mixed use building with apartments.
