My mom is 70 and is looking to relocate to somewhere she can afford to live on just her pension and SS and maybe a pt job. Long Island is NOT that place anymore unfortunately. She was doing some reading on great places to retire and Ohio came up often.

Her current rent is 1350 for a one bedroom. Just browsing some apartment sites I've seen that Ohio rents are almost half that.

She is looking for a suburban area, close to a good hospital (due to health issues), low crime, safe, nice apartments...

Any areas to look at would be greatly appreciated.

I would think either Cleveland or Columbus would be good. They both have decent healthcare systems in place and there are nice suburban areas in both.

We just moved from Bellport LI, to Batavia, to the east of Cincinnati. We slashed our expenses and bought a house! We love it out here! Batavia has a hospital and the Clermont Senior Services has great day programs and transportation. It's just down the road from the hospital, also there is a YMCA there too. Here are some apt listings in the area: http://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/Ohio/Batavia/
