Learn to get your facts straight before you decide to post anything on this forum. Beavercreek is a wonderful place to live on the same level as Centerville or Springboro. The schools are excellent, there's plenty of upscale shopping (nicer than Dayton Mall area IMHO), and wonderful activities within the city and Greene County parks and rec. There's a reason why Beavercreek was ranked 84th in the list of 100 best cities to live in pop.>50000) by Money Magazine. For comparisons, Mason was ranked 81st. No offense to them, but Centerville or Oakwood didn't make the list (but probably could).

Nothing annoys me more than an ignorant poster. Please think before you click.

No way you should stay away from the Beavercreek Schools. Have 3 out of 5 daughters that attend or attended Beavercreek and has been a wonderful experience. We are now retired military calling Beavercreek our home and love it. Any sport you choose can also be a great experience here. Being in real estate, great areas are also Centerville, Springboro, Oakwood in any order. Springboro might be a little too far but have many friends who commute and don't mind. I believe that for anyone moving, it is what you make of it! Good Luck

Although I am a new poster, I have visited the City-Data site quite frequently over the years. I feel the need to refute comments made by JeffreyT. Sir, I live in Kettering east of Wilmington Pike and north of David Road. This is by the way walking distance to the shopping center, The Greene, spoken of glowingly in a later post about Beavercreek. We moved into the area more than 20 years ago from Arizona and have gladly stayed. We love Kettering for the wonderful city services and facilities - for example: the Kettering Rec Center and the Fraze Pavalion, site of community activities, concerts, festivals, and so on.
The Kettering City Schools experienced a minor rating decline recently, but it is still quite a wonderful system having one of the finest High School Music programs and facilities in the area. Also to be considered are the excellent parochial schools available including Alter HS which has a substantial student population from both the Centerville and Kettering areas.
We love Kettering, raised two wonderful, successful children here, and will retire here.
Sorry, JeffreyT - I had to stand up for my neighborhood.

Kettering has an excellent school system. My step-daughters recently graduated from there. Whenever I've attended concerts, open houses, etc., it was always well-attended by parents. I just looked at their school report card for 2006-2007. They met Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for all areas except reading. Their scores are still higher than "similar" districts in Ohio. It looks like the two areas that hurt them were "Limited English Proficient," and "Students With Disabilities." If a school district does not meet AYP in one area (i.e.,, Limited English Proficient), than they won't make AYP.

I wouldn't make any negative assumptions about the quality of education in Kettering based on the fact that they dropped from "Excellent" to "Efficient." You can see the report card yourself at http://http://www.ode.state.oh.us/re...IST/044180.pdf

I'm from ontario as well and will soon be moving to the area. I have boys roughly the same age. Would be great to be able to connect at some point perhaps to make the adjustment a little easier. Our oldest son is having some difficulty with the idea. How are your children taking to the thought of moving if you don't mind my asking??

I am a 2005 graduate from Kettering City Schools, now a junior at Smith College in Massachusetts, and I can only say good things about the district! Fairmont is a large high school (2700 students is pretty accurate), but it gave me room to make friends with a wide array of people and a place to make my own identity. It has really excellent honors classes, lots of activities, and extraordinary music and art programs. If it's important to you, they'll begin offering IB classes soon and they already offer several AP classes. I also made important and lasting relationships with some of my teachers. I don't know that I would've been any better prepared for college at Oakwood or Centerville schools.

By the way, I have lived all my life in the Wilmington Pike/Smithville area, and while it's certainly not the richest section of the city, it is a very nice area and very safe. The Van Buren shopping center has experienced a recent and successful remodeling and redevelopment, and new homes have gone up next door. The area around Kroger and Elder Beerman is also pleasant.

I grew up in the Chevy Chase apartments. Moved to Florida just before high school (1980) when my mother remarried and relocated. Centerville schools were great. Much better than Florida. Chevy Chase is public housing, but my single mom raised two boys who graduated college and went on to own successful businesses.

I found this post, because my wife and I are thinking of selling our business and moving to Canada, where she is from.

Best of luck to all... good kids do come from public housing. (And I know you did not mean to imply otherwise. I was just googling and found my old home in two clicks, and thought I weigh in on Chevy Chase. Ah, memories.)

I was looking through this forum and came across your thread ....we are also moving to Ohio from Canada. I have a distinct feeling that our families are moving for the same reason. The kids and I have not yet been to Ohio but are planning to make the trip over the March break. My kids are 11 years and 8 years old. From what I hear (from my fiance and read on this forum) Centerville/Beavercreek seems like the place to be. Looking forward to seeing the houses and the area soon. There are some posts about Oakwood, we do not know where that is yet. Perhaps when we all make this move, we could get together (whenever this "thing" gets done !!!!!)
