Looking for a reasonable Home
Ok ! I am Retired with a fair income. I still do odd Jobs. I have read that Circleville is a nice place to live. well I don't need a place with a lot of Jobs and Schools, I only need a place with good Doctors and Friends. I love the outdoors and State fairs Ect. I live in Florida which I have come to dislike because housing is way too High. 2bd room 900 sq ft. are renting for $850. or more , I can't stand that. I would be a Contributer to the community. Only want a small friendly town.. Lived in Dayton for a while years ago.. Born in Ansonia, on a 26 Acre Farm.. So Someone please point me in the right direction for a Warm welcome place..

If you like small towns, try Wilmington. It is definitely a farmer's town. Slow paced. Lots of festivals. County seat of Clinton County. http://www.wnewsj.com/
http://www.brownpublishing.com/ - this is an excellent link to many of the small to medium size towns around Ohio.

Im sure you will like Ohio coming from Florida. My brother-in-law and his family are moving up to Columbus from West Palm Beach. They want their kids to go to good schools and they want away from the hurricanes. Also the cost of living as well. Good luck in finding a new home in Ohio.

Towns
Hillsboro is a nice little town of abt 7-8,000 people. There are planty of things to do like going to the bowling alley, or to Rocky Fork lake, the nearest lake to Hillsboro, to see the Hydroplane races in the summertime. Hillsboro is the county seat of Highland Couty. Highland Couty is very senic. Part of the county has rolli8ng hills, whereas the Cincinnati side of Highland Couty is flat. Hillsboro is a friendly little town. A couple days before July 4th, we celebrate the Festival of The Bells. Here is the website for the City of Hillsboro just incase you are interested.

I'm going to beat Paintballer to it this time. The town of Columbiana is on the Columbiana/Mahoning County border. I drive through it every night on my way to Pittsburgh. There is a really nice lake with condos and houses all around it. It seems like a real retirement village. As a bonus there are no gators in the lake either. This entire area has a fair or festival going on every weekend too. The shaker woods festival is in spitting distance, and the Canfield fair is 6 miles due North. The whole area is surrounded by Mennonite farms. There are plenty of farm markets and fresh vegetable stands. 15 minutes South you will find the Rogers farm market and auction. That's a sight to see. It won't break the bank either. There are plenty of good doctors in this area too. Plus Pittsburgh for your heart and Cleveland for cancer are only an hour each way. The only thing you won't like is the weather. It still gets a bit chilly in this area, but we don't get the snow we used to. I believe Paintballer has a sister here too. Maybe he can give more insight.

^ I dont have a sister in Columbiana, i believe that is another forumer on here. BTW, that is Arrowhead Lake you are talking about, and that is really a great area. I was driving through that area just this past summer, and it was building many more condos on the other side of the lake. There were smaller ponds with fountains in them. It was just a great looking little community inside a great community.
Also, there are many other condo communities getting built around Columbiana. There is one called Old SageBrook off of Route 14, and Jamestown Trace also off of Route 14. Jamestown Trace is more of a retirement community. THere are some other condo communities getting built just outside of Firestone Park. This is a great park too i must add. From these communities you have bike and walk trails through the woods to the park. The communities themselves have great looking clubhouses with some very nice looking pools. Columbiana is worth looking into.

Well I do have a sister in Columbiana
She loves it there, for me Columbiana is a bit too regulated, also housing can be more than I want to pay at this time. Plus it can be a bit colder / hotter than the SE counties. Leetonia can be a bit of a bargain if you like that area. They do have to be careful the growth does not get out of hand. I will be back in Columbiana when I get back from Florida. Got to deliver the oranges, lemons and grapefruit I'll be packing.
The cheapest place in Ohio is probably Monroe county, also one of the most hassle free and less regulated. Any of those counties down the eastern side of Ohio by the river in the SE region can be good. Maybe you might like Marietta.
Lots of places to choose from in Ohio. Carroll and Jefferson are worth another look. Just stay away from most of the River towns that have pollution. Still a lot of small farms in those two counties.
I can see why you don't like Florida. They have gotten into a lot of bad habits, trying to skin the tourists is one of them. I just went to a local fair and they wanted to charge $6 for a hotdog. Didn't seem to be many takers. Even the folks from Canada don't want to pay the prices today. FL is going to mess it up if they continue with their approach, not what people want today.

20 Mile diameter Around Columbus
Draw a 20 mile diameter circle around Columbus and then look outside of it. There are a lot of small towns with affordable housing near parks with low housing prices outside of this circle. The bonus - they are a short drive to some highly rated hospitals located in Columbus, and since Columbus is centrally located hospitals in Cleveland are not out of the question either. Lancaster is located just south of Columbus and is at the very beginnings of some beautiful hill country with some fantastic state parks nearby. London is a quiet farm community with some great home prices, and is the home of the Strawberry festival. Marysville is another sleeper - a Honda plant is located there so it is growing but still small town. Delaware is nice, but housing is expensive, but just go a little further north to Marion and they are almost giving away housing there. Train buffs love it and you may find it interesting. It is also home to the Popcorn festival. Granville - quaint New England style college town(Dennison University) with rolling hills -very beautiful. Circleville is a lot like Lancaster and home to the Pumpkin Festival -Circleville was originally laid out in a circle thus the name. Happy hunting!!
