Not even close. Ohio has a very low cost of living, actually.

Well...I'm a major booster of Ohio but would have to add a clarification to this response.

It depends where you compare, it is much less expensive than San Jose, San Francisco, San Diego or Los Angeles metro areas.

However, it can be more expensive than places like Sacramento, Fresno or much of the Inland Empire.

Property taxes tend to be quite high in much of Ohio, often 2% (sometimes even more) of current property value. In addition, Ohio has a state income tax that is a bit less than California's but also has local wage taxes. So depending upon the sources of your income, Ohio can actually have total taxes higher than California.

In addition, Ohio tends to have significantly more "degree days" than California cities, meaning your utility bills can be a bit higher. In my move to Sacramento from Columbus, I reduced my annual gas and water bills by about 35%.

But, you also get much better public services, like safe and higher quality public schools and libraries in Ohio. So you can see some benefit from higher taxes.

Just wanted to present a bit more information here. Ohio is a great place to raise a family, we chose to raise our kids there and have no regret about their outcomes.

Thanks.
Don't move there.
Its true its cheap and all, but you are going to be disappointed very easily.
Its not diverse, diverse would be California, New York, D.C., Arizona, Florida, Nevada...Ohio is not not not diverse. Don't get your opinions from Ohioans, but from outsiders who lived there. Especially the ones, who are not fro the Midwest.

The weather and the humidity, and the allergies make it the state just as bad as the mentality. I found this thread bellow, click the link, it gives you the other perspective.

Reason #426 Why Ohio Sucks

Everyone here throws flowers to the state and are not being honest in their opinion, surprisingly few negatives, but I will throw some fertilizer for you.

It's obvious that Ohio isn't for everyone, just as California isn't for everyone, and New York isn't for everyone, and Minnesota isn't for everyone ...

Isn't that great, otherwise it would be pretty crowded somewhere.

I happen to like it here, so I will agree with you in that you are admitting that you are throwing "fertilizer" around.

Please stick to your state, and protect its interest by not talking about others. The topic is Ohio, not the problems in Hawaii.

"It's obvious that Ohio isn't for everyone, just as California isn't for everyone, and New York isn't for everyone, and Minnesota isn't for everyone ..."

Its also obvious and blasphemous to equate New York and California's problem with those of Ohio.

Yes every state has problems, but anyone around the world or out of state ("except for Ohioans") would no doubt live in New York, or California before pulling a magnifying glass from their pockets, in order to locate Ohio on a map!
