Default Ohio needs a good game developer studio

really bad. Video games are huge across the world. It would also help out students who want to pursue that type of degree instead of having to relocate to California or Florida to find work. I cant believe Ohio doesn't have a top notch home-grown game develop

Agreed. God knows how many hours my friends and I logged into game servers over the years. Geek's day in: 24 pack of Mountain Dew, bag of Ruffles, and an uncongested Warsong Gulch.

I'm talking top notch quality here. A huge game studio committed to excellence. Gaming is huge and that could help a local economy big time. Hopefully it wouldn't be in Columbus though. They need to get slapped around for inflating housing costs. Yea but what gamer hasn't dreamed of a massive space exploration game? Combine FPS/RPG/RTS elements all in to one and allow people to feel like they're on a true 3D adventure in to the unknown. Your PC would become you command center.

Actually I have thinking about this a lot now. I would really like to see Cleveland become the Video game central of America. Just think about it for a second, no other city in America has that title. We should start getting local colleges to teach Video Game design courses (I think the Cleveland Devry already does but im not sure), and then we need a large video game making company to move its headquarters to Cleveland or start a new company. Then they should put servers for online games in Cleveland, and everything else having to do with designing, making, and playing video games. If Cleveland is the 1st city to do this, and the most successful, it could turn the entire area around completely into a very desirable place. The city would finally reinvent itself. Sorry to Cincinnati and Columbus, but Cleveland really needs this.

There are a few in the northeast Ohio Cleveland area. None that are incredibly well known, but there are some.

Also here is a site with your guys' idea in mind that is focused on getting more game industry attention to Northeast Ohio. Local developers post in the forums and post job openings.

Northeast Ohio Videogame Initiative

They need to take the risk and make the bigger more expensive AAA titles. Their first one might take them excessive amount of time but the payoff would be rewarding and help speed up their potential and growth. Though like everything im sure it would become like another Electronic Arts. I'm very picky about when it comes to representin' Ohio. They shouldn't even bother unless they're willing to raise the bar, or at the minimum compete with the top developers in the industry. I really want to see Ohio have its own PC game developer.

Here is another link. Case western started dame design courses in 05. Their goal is exactly what I had hoped for. They want to turn northeast Ohio in to a central video game hub. Wow not often I have an idea or something and come to find out its in the works. THEY BETTER BE TOP QUALITY.

Hey everyone. I'm a student studying video game design (1 more year) in Portsmouth, Ohio and I'm originally from Cleveland. I was wondering if anyone knew any video game companies in the Cleveland or Columbus area. (neogameinitiative.com was not working). I too would really like to see Ohio become a center for video game development.

I could see Columbus actually developing these types of companies because of Ohio State and the very high student population. Columbus has been growing its film based companies recently, and some of this has to do with a program at OSU where you can create your own area of study. A decent sized group of students have started a film study focus at OSU, and then while their in school or graduate they try to open their own company in the CMH. I could see something similar happening if OSU embraces video game development, or maybe if Columbus State put together a two year degree, or Columbus College of Art and Design (which already has a slight animation focus) would put together a strong video game dev. program. If this happened, I could see it causing the students to open up their own gaming company.

Default Portsmouth

I would like to know if anyone finds any companies in the area also. I would like for my son to get a part time internship here in Cleveland this year. My son will graduate in June and wanted to attend Fullsail. I saw the program at Shawnee and we are planning to go down to see the campus/program. How do you feel about the campus and program in Portsmouth? We are from Cleveland also.

I heard a bad rumor about Fullsail. Make sure you check into it thoroughly. I live in Tampa and my sister had one of her friends tell her some negative stories about the place. She told me he transferred to a design school in Tampa. I'm not sure if the complaints are valid or not. Just though I would let you know. I was considering it at one time also after coming across an ad in the back of a video game magazine.
