Considering living in Wilmington
My company will be relocating me to Ohio and I've been considering the town of Wilmington as a place to live, or perhaps one of the surrounding towns.
Had a few questions for those of you who live in this part of the state:
1) How come so many homes lack basements? Seems like most of the ones I've seen on realtor sites have only crawl space (if that).
2) Is there any advantages to living in one of the surrounding towns of Wilmington versus living in Wilmington itself?
3) Does anyone know of any new condo or town homes either in development there or recently constructed?

I moved to the Dayton area and had the same question about basements. Most people here look surprised when I ask the question but apparently aren't surpised enough not to throw on an extra 60,000 whenever there's a basement. Supposedly its high water tables, although the randomness of houses with basements suggests more a high cost of construction. Ohio is more expensive than I thought it would be (coming from Michigan and Nebraska).
I'm sorry I don't know much about Wilmington. Hopefully someone else can answer your question. You might want to think about locating halfway to either Columbus or Cinncinnati.

I lived in Wilmington for 3.5 years. It is a nice town to live in and very affordable. However, the surrounding school disctricts (Clinton-Massie and East Clinton) are considered to be better than Wilmington City Schools. If this is a consideration for you, somewhere between Wilmington and Sligo or Clarksville or between Wilmington and Blanchester may be a better choice.
Wilmington has some nice, newer condos on the west side of town on Wayne, and some others northeast of the center of town.

I grew up in Wilmington. I find it interesting that Clinton-Massie and East Clinton have better schools according to current reputation.
However, my dad grew up in the area and he had a saying: Basements are good for one thing, collecting water.

I don't know if you have moved yet but i have lived in Clinton County my whole life. I live just outside Sabina in between Wilmington and Sabina off of US 22. The Sabina area is a really nice area to live. You have that small town feel but being close to the city conveniences. Sabina is located about 9 miles east of Wilmington. The village has about 2,800- 3,000 people. Sabina is apart of East Clinton Local School dist. with Sabina Elementary, East Clinton High School and Middle School are located about 5 miles south of town. The housing in Sabina/Richland Township area are very affordable and diverse. There are many old farmhouses in the country to old Victorians in town and some newer houses that have been built in the last 5 years. There are a few (not even 1 year old) townhouses that were built in Sabina. Wilmington is a nice town but it is plagued by traffic. From my house i can be in Wilmington in about 10 minutes but driving through town takes another 10-15 minutes at times. All of Wilmingtons shopping, restaurant and retail are located on the east side which is close to Sabina. So coming from Sabina you can make it say to Wal Mart faster than someone who lives on the west side of Wilmington because of all the traffic lights. Clinton County as a whole is a nice place to live, work, and be from. Good Luck if you haven't already moved.
