Concider moving to Sugarcreek Oh from Pgh Pa
I am looking for great location or towns near or around Sugarcreek. Or between Pa and ohio.
We want to get out of the high taxes in Pa and we want to get out of the city living.
One thing we need to incourage my hubby's dad that Ohio is a great place to be.
I have tons of friends from the western Oh and southern Oh but none where we want to be.
I have been searching for homes for rent at great prices. I found quite a few 4 bdrm houses for rent at 450 a month. We pay 650 a month for a 3 bdrm place.
Also advice on how to persway dad into moving in this great state. We visit Sugarcreek alot and we are going back up this weekend.

Trust me i know how you feel about Pennsylvania and how high the taxes are. I left PA about two years ago. Im very glad i left. I love Ohio. I really like Sugarcreek. Its in a very nice scenic area. Tuscarawas County is a very nice place to live. Your also not far from Canton so if you need shopping or any other entertainment its not a far drive, just up I-77. Im originally from Monroeville and when i go back home and i see the condition Pittsburgh and the metro area are in im glad i left. Ohio is a much cheaper state to live in. That is why you are seeing many people leaving Western PA and heading to NE Ohio. If you cant find anything in Sugarcreek i can assure you that you will find something in New Philadelphia and Dover. Both are very nice growing midsized towns. You can just tell your dad that coming from a former Pennsylvanian living in Ohio i dont regret it one bit. Good luck with the move and i would be more than happy to help with anymore questions.

^Trust me there are days when i miss Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania as well. I just look at Cincinnati, a city just like Pittsburgh, but in better shape. I look at the growth and income coming into Mason and i compare Mason to Monroeville. Big differance between the two. Cincinnati is a hilly city just like Pittsburgh, but better economy. LOL im a Steeler fan too. Made me mad with the loss to the Bengals. LOL do you have any idea what it is like living in Bengals territory being a Steeler fan? Actually there is not problem. I couldnt have asked for better neighbors or coworkers.

One other question,
How are your ulitilities there as well.
Our gas we pay about 55 a month now and probably about 75 a month in dead cold winter. When we first moved in our new place las Jan we only had the heat on 4 times in dead cold winter. but in our old place we were paying 400 dollars a month and we can't afford that.
Our electric we pay about 88 dollars a month most of the time. The highest we paied in our old place was almost 2 hundred dollars.
How about water as well. What do everyone pay in ohio.

Saving on heating bills
Rent or buy a house from an old Amish family who has gas/oil well and rights on their property and get free gas forever; otherwise, plan on paying a pretty penny in heating costs in the winter.
As far as Sugarcreek, I'm not an expert, but I've been through there a few times. Sugarcreek is in Holmes County; if you want small town charm, friendly people, Amish, Mennonite, etc. Sugarcreek will fit the bill. I have found a laid back atmosphere in Wayne and Holmes County; many salt of the earth type hard-working people. I guess living in a small town can be good or bad depending on your likes and dislikes and/or circumstances in life. It also depends on who you know, what you get involved in as far as church, school, community, etc. For some, they fit in nicely and in no time, for some, they feel like outsiders, like looking in from the outside. Small towns have small-town gossip mongers as well as very sweet people who are truly genuine and kind. It all depends on what you like, whether you enjoy the simple things in life and value peace, serenity, close neighbors, close communities or not. I feel that Sugarcreek as far as surrounding communities are very safe, probably as closest you're going to get to Mayberry, U.S.A.
I live in such a town in Wayne County, which is right next door to Holmes County, and it's a good place for raising our kids at this time (we have 7 kids), but I am looking forward to the day where I can experience living in a larger city with more opportunities and things that I'm interested in. I was not born in this country; I was born in a large city in Eastern Europe. I still don't feel at place where I live; so I suppose everyone has their own "calling" as to where they feel at home.
Wishing you a happy and safe move.

As far as electric; electric is not cheap either, but I don't know where it is cheap anywhere in the nation. It all depends on what kind of heating/cooling system your home will have. You most likely can run fans in the summer, dry clothes on clothes lines, etc.
As far as water, I surmise that well water will be prevalent, which is free (well, "free", until the pump dies, or well problems occur, which they do once in a while). However, I've found an abundance of iron in water in these areas; and a good water softener/filter system is necessary (most likely it will be there when you arrive). If you live in such an area, you will need to get the salt to filter through, etc. Otherwise, if you run a well, that will be your only cost. This is our case in the county next door.

We are lucky that the Steelers have big Ben. I just recently heard that he is planning on building a house on the Ohio/PA border in my favorite little town of Columbiana, Ohio. That town is really growing though. I hate to see a small town like that grow so fast. They just built this new private golf course and many million dollar houses have went up and he is planning on moving in there i heard.
