Now that the Summer Olympics at London is over. Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 and no chances for the 2020. After reading this article Chris Lillstrung: The Summer Olympics in Northeast Ohio -- why not? - news-herald.comCleveland truly does have the potential to host a Summer Olympics, Cleveland does have the stadiums and arenas, numerous hotels (holding places), great infrastructure, off Lake Erie/near Canada, and the Midwest hasn't hosted an Olympic game since St. Louis (1904). So what do you think?

It would be awesome. It will also never happen. The best chance for us to get the games here would be a regional effort between maybe Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Columbus. It still would be highly unlikely.

It would be pretty cool. Volleyball on the Lake Erie shore. Rowing in the lake, with the city serving as a backdrop for TV audiences.

It would never happen though. They'd have to build a huge stadium to serve as the main venue, since there's no way to squeeze a track into Browns Stadium.

Hi all--

For some reason I'm reminded of this photo from 2000, back when Cincinnati thought it had a decent chance of getting the 2012 Olympics. Looks like they would have had to tear down Queensgate and pretty much the entire West End to do it, though.

Great picture--one of the best I've ever seen of the Cleveland CBD! The city does have potential.

Don't laugh. Back in 2000, one of Cincinnati's most outspoken promoters, city councilman Nick Vehr, almost single-handedly tried to secure the USA's Olympic bid. Although, in retrospect, his campaign might seem outlandishly grandiose, back then it enabled Cincinnatians to imagine their city in a way many of them had never thought about before--as a global player. Needless to say, although the Olympic dream faded fast, Vehr was instrumental in securing the 2012 World Choir Games, a huge success that did attract global attention to Cincinnati. Cleveland should be so lucky to have such an advocate as this visionary ex-councilman.
