Germantown, OH?
Is there anyone out there who is familiar with Germantown in SW Ohio? I am trying to find a nice little town to retire in. I lived in OH in the late 70's - early 80's before I joined the Navy. Since leaving the Navy, I have resided in San Diego CA. I love the weather here but I haven't been too happy with just about everything else. I would love to be able to OWN my own place someday.
I've been doing some research and Germantown looks exactly like what I want. I would really appreciate some personal insight on the area. I can only glean so much from statistics and informational web sites.
Thanks in advance.

^I really like Germantown. Its just south of Dayton and about 1 hour from Cincinnati. Its about 30 mintues from where i live. Its a very nice small town sorrounded by country side. Only about 4,000 people live there. Its a very nice quiet little town. I have seen the area for moving purposes, but i found out the popuation from Wikipedia. Now when i went to the town it had very nice small streets, nice homes, and was very clean with nice landscaping. Seemed like the perfect town. And if you want to go to the cities they are not far either.

Thanks paintballer1708. You have described it just as I was imagining it. I was also looking at Lebanon but the houses are more expensive and it is a much larger city. On the other hand, Lebanon does have lower taxes overall. I’m still leaning toward Germantown.

I would lean more towards Germantown if you want that small town feel. Lebanon is a very nice town. Its growing rapidly and you are seeing many people coming in from around the nation. Its not really having that small town feel to it because of how fast it is growing. Germantown seems perfect.

Lived there 3 years ago...
Germantown is a very nice little town. I am 20, and I lived in Germantown from birth until I was 17. It's quiet, it's peaceful, most people are friendly....but you should be aware that starting next month, it will no longer have it's own police dispatch- it's being transferred to the Montgomery County Sherrif. For some people, this isn't a big deal, and honestly, there is almost no crime in Germantown....however, I personally do not like these plans, and I think it is always an asset for a town, however small, to have its own dispatch center. Again, you probably would never need to call the police in Germantown...but if you did, would you rather call the county or call your town directly? They say that by using the Sherrif's office, there will be more officers to help if other officers are busy...but if you had called the town office and they were busy, you always had the option of calling the Sherrif as well...now there is only one place to go.
Good luck with everything, I hope you are happy

Hi San,
I live in the township outside of the town of Germantown. We love it here. It is just far enough from town to be quaint and close enough to be easy to get to nice places for shopping, dining, etc.
I'm new to this forum, but I was thinking of doing a little photography project about the town of Germantown to keep my photography lively and interesting. I have put a link to photos I took during the 4th of July parade a few weeks ago. I plan to do more shoots as time allows.

I'm a member of an antique fire apparatus club and most of our activities are centered in Germantown. I really like the town. (I think the fire Department is first-rate, as well. I'm not sure how the centralized emergency dispatch will shake out, but I definitely understand how Brittany1337 feels...) There's also a nwely-opened Italian Restuarant "Trattoria Francesco" We've eaten there and it's AWESOME!

Hah, another photo buff who finds Germantown photogenic. It sure is. This has to be one of the best little towns with great old buildings and houses.
(thats for that restaurant tip. too, Crewchief).
